It is too bad you decided not to be on point like Stacy Adams.
The more Simmons piled up columns and chats, the more his favorites and his omissions led me to the conclusion that the dude has just got TERRIBLE taste in popular entertainment. And I think he came up with his whole "unintentional comedy" thing so he could feel better about liking complete and total crap. The last straw for me was when he said he didn't think "Arrested Development" was funny. Sacrilege.
The thing about Bloc Party live isn't that they suck. They're more like pleasantly mediocre. The first time I saw them was at Coachella last year. I think this was their first LA appearance right when the album came out and everyone was incredibly stoked to see them. The tent was PACKED, but the show was pretty underwhelming, not bad but just like hearing the CD really loud. And Kele doesn't have as much charisma live as you'd think. I also once caught them at this KROQ Concert I covered and they actually rocked, surprising considering the venue was a baking asphalt parking lot in the dead of summer. But then the last time I saw them, the Kills opened for them and blasted them away. Bloc Party was definitely serviceable live, great songs and all but nothing remotely awe-inspiring. It was exactly like the Artic Monkeys show I saw. you're right. Just play that CD on shuffle loud and the beer will ultimately be the better purchase.
See, this is where your mid-Atlantic bias gets in the way. Anyone originally from the Deep South (with half a noggin) will tell you that DBT rocks harder than any band of its type, ever -- with our without the Buford Stick. Ever, ever, ever. But then, if I were a girl, I would totally have Patterson Hood's babies.
That was supposed to be worded right, but I'm commenting drunk. Rocking it DBT style. Hell, the last time I saw the band in concert (at some exclusive show in Columbia) Jason Isbell was blasted.
