Gravatar I, too, would be less concerned with Sewell being the C-ville version of Quincy Carter than Al Groh turning out to be the C-ville version of (wait for it, wait for it) Jim Donnan. You may have made this comparison already, in which case there's not going to be anything new under the sun here, but . . . the sky-high expectations at the start of his reign? The shitty five-win first season that nevertheless contained one or two nice upsets, followed immediately by a rise to near-greatness, followed by a slow but steady (and inexplicable) decline? The preternatural grouchiness? The steady stream of top-shelf recruits who somehow never consistently reached their full potential until they were wearing NFL uniforms? The only major difference is that you were the jiltees in your personal Quincy Carter scenario (i.e. Ronald Curry), whereas we were stuck with ours.

Mind you, this is in no way intended to be a Nelson Muntz-style "Ha ha," because I consistently root for UVA as long as they're not playing Georgia. Still, as someone who's been down that dark road before, I've learned to recognize it when it's happening to others. Maybe in addition to improving the offense, Mike can convince his dad to drop the lame "Sea of Orange" shit -- that'd be a start.

Gravatar Yikes...that's scarily accurate. Except for the fact that UGA has that whole "history of success and rabid fanbase" to fall back on.

As for Ronald Curry, as I've said before, the only reason that I regret going after him in the first place is that we gave up on recruiting Michael Vick, who was tight with Aaron Brooks. Right now, my brain's exploding trying to imagine Vick in a Cavalier uniform.

Gravatar I just want you to know that each rip on the Big Ten hurts me personally. I hope you're happy, you mean man.

Gravatar That got me thinking: has Michigan ever played a game on the Deuce? Lemme tell ya: you've never heard a game for real until Pam Ward calls it.

Gravatar Yeah, Ward provides that freakishly rage-inducing lesbian aspect to a college football broadcast that can't be duplicated elsewhere.

I am usually only in favor of crucifying prophets and martyrs, but for Ward, I'll make an exception.

Gravatar Ian, on the bright side it looks like "everyone hold my balls while I nut on the world"-caliber quarterback prospect Pete Lalich is all but a Cav. Michigan is in on him as well, but I really won't mind in the least when he signs with Virginia.

Gravatar Matt- I'm assuming you saw the 'Cuse/UVA game that Ward did, right? I'll never know whether I drank myself retarded due to the nailbiting circumstances of that game or the fact that Ward was announcing it.

And although UVA's in the lead for Lalich at this point, Ronald Curry has told us to trust nothing in Recruitland. Looking at some of the schools that we're in competition with...it's scary. But UVA does have a good history with QB's. Not great, but Hagans will probably be in the NFL some way or another, and Schaub, Brooks and Blundin have made it to the next level. Well, Blundin became just another QB fucked over by Marty Schottenheimer, but that's another story.

Gravatar How could I possibly forget the UVA/'Cuse game this year. I think Ward is still reminding everyone in earshot that Ryan LaCasse ran track in high school.
