Playing the role of "Stat Boy":
1. It's Aaron "Smooth Jazz" McKee... accept no subsitutions!
2. Ratliff and Kukoc didn't really factor into the title run as they were dealt mid-season for the bowlful of laughs that is Dikembe.

I second the jealousy front. I got Sa-Ra,Kanye's new group for Rap-Up next week. You win. Hands down.
On Secret Machines, I thought your review made some very solid points. I haven't heard the entire album yet and maybe its premature to say the review is harsh but I do really like both "Lightning Blue Eyes," and "Alone, Jealous and Stoned." Is it that bad. I think of a C as almost unlistenable.
That being said, when I heard Now Here is Nowhere last year I liked it well enough. A solid album, but nothing worth raving about. When I saw them live at Coachella, I was blown away. One of the best live shows I've ever seen. I admit it may have been the strong drugs I was on, but still they were incredible. On album everything sounded rather tinny and flat but it came alive in the live setting. I actually got way more into them as a result of it. Though I'm not crazy about September 000 all that much. I'm often underwhelmed by bands that make great albums (see Bloc Party) but can't pull it off live, but Secret Machines were the complete opposite.
Regarding the second half of the comments section, that can be quickly remedied when you move west. Much sucks about this town. But not that.

Jeff, ask them why their live show sucks so much. I saw Sa-Ra a few months ago after a lot of hype and I came away bitterly disappointed.

Jeff...you pretty much summed up the problem with "Ten Silver Drops," as both of those songs are on the first half of the album.
As far as Stylus ratings go, a "C" in my view means "average," rather than "unlistenable." There aren't a whole lot of albums that get "A"s; from off the top of my head, The Mountain Goats, M.I.A. (A+) and Bloc Party (A+) got 'em in 2005, and those just so happened to be the #1, 2 and 3 albums on our year end list. I guess to pull out the Pitchfork equivalency, a B+ is like our 8.0 and a C is like a 6.0 or something. It's not exact, but you get the gist of it.
Good call, Hal. I guess by including Theo Ratliff and Toni Kukoc, I somehow managed to get the elements (tall, white) of Todd MacCulloch without mentioning him.

I guess its a bit harder without a numerical scale to gauge. Thanks for clearing things up. I will never ever be able to understand how MIA got an A+. Maybe I'm not avant-garde enough.
Joey, I'll try to slide something in there about their live show being disappointing. I've never even heard of them. I have no idea what to ask other than why is Kanye West such a fucking prick?

I can slide you a mixtape if you want to hear some music before you speak with them. Shoot me an email if interested.
Ian, sorry to turn this into a place for transactions and personal correspondence. Back to the general discussion...

I love House. But they are particularly harsh on Cameron. Wait - on Allison.
Her first name is Allison - right? RIGHT?
I liked the colonoscopy segue from House into sports. Nicely done.

Just remember segues like these when you're voting for "Most Talented 3L". That and the fact that there's almost no Jumble that I can't solve in under ten seconds.

The wife and I had a discussion about how we didn't know any of the first names of the House Docs. Well, House is Greg, and Cuddy is Lisa, because their names are on the doors. I think Wilson's name is Henry, but I'm not sure where I get that from. The wife thought Cameron's first name was Cameron, but I brought up how Chase and Foreman weren't first names. For some reason I keep thinking Foreman's name is Milo, but I think that's just because I think of Milos Forman. And because the name Milo is awesome.
But your premise is spot on about House this week. An unsedated colonoscopy is pretty much the writer's way of telling the audience "I want you to vicariously feel pain so intense that you'll have to stand up and shake out your ass cheeks". Which I did.

OK, IMDB says Wilson's name is James, but I don't remember that at all.
Also, it says Foreman's name is Eric, but isn't that Topher Grace's character on That 70's Show? Eric Foreman? Fox wouldn't have two characters with the exact same name, would they?
And yes, it says Cameron's name is Allison (and Chase is Robert).

The Eastern Conference matchups were pretty much a crapshoot. Ottawa is the best team and after that, the other teams are all about the same. Most hockey series are tossups anyway -- home ice doesn't mean that much and lower seeded teams win all the time.
The Rangers don't suck, but they're playing poorly, so I suppose they would've been the most favorable matchup, but it's not a huge difference between any of those teams.
I think the Flyers are a little short on skill guys to make an extended run. After Forsberg and Gagne, they don't have many guys who can create. Knuble scores, but mostly on garbage goals. They have a lot of kids who are good athletes, but aren't advanced enough to consistently create their own O. Solid team, probably not good enough to win more than 2 series.
Should be interesting to see if Umberger comes back after that hit.
