Gravatar Can you explain why "Meadowlands" is less resonant now? Sure, I may have listened to that disc a lot more back in my halcyon days in Charlottesville, but tracks like "This Boy Is Exhausted" seem a lot more resonant now that I'm working than back when I was a 1L spending my days out in the sun without a care in the world, playing softball and drinking from a keg that some firm paid for.

P.S. I knew things were bad when Chris Olsen was named the starter heading into the season, but seriously, Western Michigan? Groh just might break Willingham's record for highest salary-to-win ratio.

Gravatar i'm with you on the timberlake, but it's uh-oh time. pitchfork slaves in women's pants are about to act dumb. i already seen it.

i would like to point out that my old room-mate was homeboys with JT in elementary school. sleep overs and all that. so i know bout Timbo before he was anywhere near as good at dodgeball as he is today. dude was one of those "gotta be the best at everything" type bols, so he will get the best of what's around. but, you know, he's still justin fucking timberlake

Gravatar Mike, you just explained the difference between UVA and just about everywhere else in terms of the law school experience. Between the softball and the kegs provided courtesy of Lexis-Nexis, I'm thinking you had a lot of fewer "what have I done with my life?" moments than your average 1L. "Meadowlands" is pretty much an album that centers around the lyric "and I'm nowhere near what I dreamed I'd be/I can't believe what life's done to me." Dig?

I'm not saying that "Meadowlands" is an average album that happened to catch me at the right time. Far from it; but due to circumstances which are no fault of its own, it will always be inextricably linked to 1L with me.

Gravatar Great post. Anytime I can get a Confessions of Fire reference, I'm happy. I won't front--I rocked the shit out of that record one summer when it dropped.

Nice take on Timberlake. I am far too mad at his patent attempts to steal cultures and personnae to even listen to that shit. Now I don't have to.

Gravatar That makes sense, Ian. Also, great work on the AOL blog. I don't think I'd be able to continue to follow UVa football without it.

Gravatar The thing about the N.O.R.E. album is that "Y La Familia Ya Tu Sabe" is grammatically incorrect. It should either be "Y La Familia Ya Te Sabe" (And The Family Already Knows You) or "Y La Familia Ya Tu Sabes" (And You Already Know The Family.)

And, since he used the "tu" form for the title of the album, it should be "O, Hermano, Donde Estas?" (O, Brother, Where Art Thou?) rather than "O, Hermano, Donde Esta?" (O, Brother, Where Is He?).

All Reggaeton is basically an explicit description of a/many sexual encounter(s) or womanizing and wife beating. But it's done in Spanglish so it's difficult to follow. I lived in Costa Rica for a while, and it's HUGE their, partly because women there are quite liberated, I'm sure.
