the back story listing for (god help me) Wolverine.

Wow. The MCP lists 67 pre-"Hulk 180" appearances, and that's years out of date. You are truly a brave soul.

Gravatar Fortunately the HANDBOOK's Wolverine entry (in his solo book) contains an impeccably researched and intimidatingly thorough account of his pre-X-Men stories, which helps matters tremendously. It's out of date, clearly, and it doesn't tie all the stories to individual issues, but it's an incredibly helpful starting point. Arguably one of the best things they've done in the current version of the HANDBOOK, in fact.

Gravatar Not exactly on-topic here, but I'm actually looking forward to ECW2 starting. Now that they have Kurt Angle as the main star it seems likely that Heyman wants to take the show in the same direction as his brief run on Smackdown a few years ago rather than just repeating random violent spots from the old ECW. In about six months time, once the developmental talent has gotten a chance to adapt, the show could be in very good shape indeed.

Gravatar From the point of view of the ECW brand, obviously it's a good thing that they've got Kurt Angle, who gives them automatic credibility. On the other hand, who does he actually wrestle?

Gravatar Paul, you did review the first X-Men film. I believe the ranking was a B. Maybe a B+.

Gravatar Actully, Paul reviewed both :

Gravatar I just wanted to say that despite being able to drum up little if any enthusiasm for post-Morrison X-Men comics, I find the indexes make for excellent reading during breaks at work. Looking forward to more.

Good luck with some of the more sanity-destroying tasks on your list though!

Gravatar He was meant to be having a submission match with Benoit at One Night Stand, but nobody seems to know for sure yet.

Gravatar It's Kurt Angle v Randy Orton, it seems. I can barely imagine a less ECW match. Given that the building sold out to hardcore ECW fans ages ago, I wonder if they'll have trouble.

Gravatar It does seem kind of random. I guess that Rhino isn't getting out of his TNA contract quickly enough. Still, even the ECW fans practically worship Angle and hate everything about Orton, so there shouldn't be too much hassle.

Cena, on the other hand, will be lucky to make it out unscathed. Especially when he wins...

Gravatar It would be stupid to have him win, wouldn't it? For one thing, that would kill the new ECW's momentum stone dead, and for another, it would undercut the credibility of Money in the Bank. It's in the best interest of the WWE to have MITB winners go on to take the championship.

I know Cena's wrestling Edge for the title at Vengeance, but I think they'll give RVD the win, denounce the new ECW world title, and give Cena his title back. Then they could play him as being badly shaken over the loss, have him lose the title to Edge, and give him a rematch down the line on the grounds that he wasn't at the top of his game.

Gravatar Maybe, but since Heyman mentioned something along those lines during his promo on Raw the other week, it's unlikely to happen. I'm guessing that Angle will cost RVD the match, turning heel with the quasi-shoot gimmick of being really pissed off about getting drafted to ECW.

Gravatar I'm really looking forward to your analysis of the Claremont run: talking islands! Evil demons from Hell in Xavier's backyard! Does the A on Steven Lang's chest stand for France?

Gravatar Paul, I just wanted to say that while I'm sad there won't be any more Article 10 essays, I'm thrilled with the indexes, and looking forward to the "Early 70s" section.

Gravatar As un-ECW as Orton is, it makes sense that he helped out Edge and Foley. Afterall, Foley respects Edge for being a WWE wrestler who was more hardcore than himself. And Orton beat Foley in a hardcore match when they feuded.

Big Show on the other hand....I really hope Heyman has a plan there, because that was so nWo.

Oh, and dig the site. Read the entire Index while laid up in Taiwan for a week with nothing but internet access and whiskey.

Gravatar Heck, I'm curious how you'd compare the quality of Claremont X-Men stories as they originally appeared compared to the altered versions in Classic X-Men, which obviously had stuff inserted into it.

By "obvious", of course, I mean that I wonder if Mister Dwyer's work is supposed to pass for Mister Byrne's or not.... even the dialogue doesn't fit in.

Gravatar Wolverine back story? I didn't think even you would dare attempt that! I'm looking forward to it immensely!

Gravatar If you don't mind my asking, why did the "ninth eight" decide to discontinue ninthart.com? I always enjoyed reading their reviews and features and so on. The X-Axis is pretty great on it's own, but I'll miss ninthart...

Gravatar Wolverine's pre-Hulk backstory didn't seem quite so bad for me... because back when I was really into it, and when I get back into it nowadays I flip through comics of the period, not new ones anyway, nearly all of the stuff that was before getting the metal or joining the X-Men was detailed as a vignette. Figuring out the order of the stories was just a matter of logic... but there were no building subplots or anything.

By no means, of course, is the project not daunting. The sheer amount of appearances....
