Gravatar At least there's no Francie/Torrie Wilson match.

So, Michael Cole and Simon Dean? Yeah, that could work.

Gravatar So they replace one ex-ECW guy on colour commentary with... another ex-ECW guy on colour commentary. Bizarre.

I'm looking forward to the show but mainly just to see the reaction to Cena rather than for any of the matches. I'm also curious to see how Angle will be greeted (and Big Show, who must surely put in an appearance somewhere), but the first TV show is what I'm really looking forward to, since it should give a better indication of where Heyman wants to take the product in the coming months.

Oh, and Rhino says he isn't coming back. Silly bugger.

Gravatar And I was so looking forward to Rhyno using a flowerpot as a weapon in the ECW arena.

I'm looking forward to the show, but it'll be ridiculous if ECW fans violently riot over John Cena, in defense of a promotion employing The Big Show.

Gravatar Well, I'll be very interested to see how they react to Angle and Big Show. If it's a similar crowd to last year, I think there's a real possibility that the crowd will reject them. They really need to bring in some fresh faces and push them hard as New ECW, but I'm not sure where they'd get them from. CM Punk has been spoken about as a possibility, but most people seem to agree that he's been disappointing since going to OVW.

And remember, a lot of WWE live crowds reject Cena anyway.

Gravatar Does anyone happen to know who's airing the new ECW show in Canada?

Gravatar Oh yeah, no doubt they'll reject Cena, and I'm sure he'll play up his douche-ier tendancies to get the best heel reaction possible.

I'd actually like to see him bring the hardcore and come out with some credibility, but that's a long shot.

And no one's picked up ECW in Canada yet. Since it's only a 12 week run, if they haven't done it by now, we're probably out of luck for a while.

Gravatar Anyone think there's a chance the ECW fans may cheer Cena just to screw with the program? That's the type of smart arseness ECW crowds use to delight in, during their heyday.

And the match I'm looking forward to is Lawler/Taz; here's hoping they really give them the time to do something special.

Gravatar Angle and the Big Show will get over all right with the ECW crowds. They'll likely get shit on at first, but I think the fans will come around eventually. Angle's reached the status in his career where he will always get over with crowds simply because he's built up a large cache of good will with fans through years of great performances (like Flair and Foley, for example). And the Big Show can be extremely entertaining when used properly, which I have a feeling Heyman can do.

Gravatar Okay, I'm just now started reading through online results of the show. The fans were apparantly really into Angle. Hopefully Orton made it home alive.

Gravatar Yep, the crowd loved Angle and Big Show. And as expected, they hated Cena and Orton.

Orton stunk up the place, but Foley/Dreamer/Funk/Edge/Beulah/Lita made up for it.

The ending to Rey/Sabu was crap. I've seen RVD take that bump before and they never stopped the match.

I was hoping it was Rick Rude under the helmet, having swerved us all by not really being dead. Great main event.

Gravatar From the write-up I read, it seemed like Sabu was legitimately injured, spmething about his bicep. May be wrong though..

Gravatar Well, they did a short bit where he tried to refuse help from the medics while staggering backstage after the match, so I'd be very surprised if it wasn't a work.

Quite a good show, I thought, though some hardcore fans don't seem to be as keen in Wrestling Observer's feedback section.

Gravatar Orton did fine - he was playing the unrepentant WWE-style heel, hitting chinlocks, and generally playing with the crowd.

A good show, but they really need that crowd behind them. I'm not sure how it's going to work tonight when they're broadcasting live from the Smackdown tapings with a Smackdown audience. It's going to be hostile crowds week in and week out, I'd have thought.

Gravatar "In the unlikely event of Cena retaining with a clean pin, brace yourself for a riot."

That's hilarious. I wish Cena had won, so we could have seen "the riot" of 1000 enraged geeks rushing back to their mothers' basements and furiously typing up their OMG WWE SUCKZ message board posts. Call the riot squad!

Gravatar Cena's T-shirt bit was the funniest thing on a wrestling show in years

Gravatar "The show will be recorded at the Smackdown tapings, which seems a terribly bad idea - ECW needs to look and feel different, and the Smackdown set is rather distinctive."

Using a different camera set up meant tthey managed to keep the Smackdown set hidden away. Unfortunatly the show still wasn't very good...

Gravatar Not very good? That's putting it mildly. It was like watching Booker/Bagwell for an hour.

Gravatar Well, at least now I don't feel so bad about not getting to see it.

Gravatar Since I'm in Canada and don't get the show anyway, now I won't feel so bad about spending Tuesday nights at the bar.
