Wait, so there's a Wolverine one-shot this week and an X-Force one-shot focussing on Wolverine next week? That's.....stupid.

Gravatar A long time ago, Marvel decided that there is no such thing as too much Wolverine. So far, it looks like that strategy's been working for them... financially, at least.

The cover of Angel: Revelations is really beautiful. I might buy it just for that.

Gravatar "...a bloke waving a flag around, who gets gunned down in seconds."

I want to say Marshal Law first did that gag, but I forget exactly where. Super Babylon?

Gravatar I have a feeling I've seen it before too. But it's a peripheral part of the story, and MARSHAL LAW was twenty years ago.

Gravatar Well seems like Spurrier's writing hasn't changed since he was the 2000AD darling that was churning out such pieces of art as 'Bec and Kawl'...

Gravatar So Spurier's writing in Wolverine: DG was almost an unchecked version of Mark Millar, creating stereotypes he no doubt believe are the truth but still chugs on with to make his point be the right one?

Gravatar You know, the same thing happened to me with the Angel book. I read about it on Friday and had to stop back by the shop over the weekend. Way to market a pretty nice little book, Marvel.

Gravatar Besides the fairly obvious upcoming twist that it's not really Cyclops, how does Young X-Men fit in with the other x-books? The Hellfire Club are being used in X-Men: Legacy and Donald Pierce is one of the resurrected villains in X-Force. I'm very confused.

Gravatar "Wait and See", essentially. It's not at all clear how X-Force (in particular) fits in, as it now appears that Archangel's blue'n'metal reversion is temporary.

Gravatar What I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned is how, beneath the sin of producing a totally inane attempt at making a political statement, Wolverine in particular is an absolutely bizarre choice of character to preach on the subject at hand. I mean: Wolverine? Is lecturing others about HUNTING? Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't half the fill-in Wolverine stories of the 80s and 90s involve him going out to do his little woodwose thing by killing some (probably protected) bear or pack of wolves (and incidentally, as if to cement his status as a new Logan, I understand Warpath will be killing a bear himself in the forthcoming AIN'T NO DOG one-shot). Are we to understand that he always ATE the prey?

Now possibly you could get away with a story about someone trying to point out to Wolverine that he really should just give up the whole primitive hunting ritual thing ("Master your bestial urges, Logan! Please, let the fox go!"... OK, it's still not working for me)...

Gravatar Young X-Men is quickly going the way of the latest New Warriors. Stuck on a single story idea to justify the ride, while forgetting to make the ride engaging. Certainly doesn't help that we've been seeing the twist coming from halfway issue #1.

80% of this team has been around for awhile, shouldn't at least one of them find this situation not the least bit 'strange'. It doesn't help the story when it feels like a bad horror movie - where the characters act way too stupid and seem to have forgotten their common sense to take seriously.

Gravatar Well, hmm. There are only five members of the team. Ink's a new character (and apparently a villain anyway), so he gets a bye. Rockslide's a moron. Wolf Cub is dubious, but seemed pretty murderous in issue #1 even before "Cyclops" showed up to recruit him, so the team plays into his preconceptions. Blindfold inveigled her way onto the team against Cyclops' will, which implies that she's onto the scam. That only leaves Dust, who probably SHOULD be putting up more of a fight - but she's always been very deferential to authority figures.

Gravatar >>It's a Marvel Knights book, so heaven only knows whether it's supposed to be canon or not. I have no idea what that imprint is supposed to be used for these days.

Christ, I didn't even realise that they were still putting out comics under the Marvel Knights brand. Why?

Gravatar I have no idea. I've been saying for years that they should either give the imprint a defined role or shut it down.

Gravatar Apparently it's for prestige-format, not-necessarily-continuity projects like Spider-Man: Reign, Ennis's Fury-in-WWII story, Straczynski's Silver Surfer project and so on. No, that doesn't make it much clearer, but there you go.

Gravatar But an entire imprint just to say "Look, it has a shiny cover and it might not have happened?" Pointless.

Gravatar Wasn't Quesada's wife the quasi-president or something of Marvel Knights once he became EiC? Maybe he's keeping it around so she can still be getting a paycheck.

Gravatar And I'm set straight - with the use of supporting graphics, as well, thanks to the magic of the internet.

(sigh)

Win some, lose some.

(My only defense is: that's ridiculous. Then again, you could just say that shows where I fall on the issue of foxhunting, and I guess you'd be right. I've never actually had the opportunity to hunt a fox, but I have eaten dog... S'probably just as evil.)

Gravatar What did dog taste like?

Gravatar Beef-ish?

What's odd is that it leaves you feeling like you've had a glass of wine - not that you're feeling tipsy or buzzed, but that warm feeling is there.

Go figure.

Gravatar I've eaten horse and gator.

Horse is great in sweet and sour dishes.

Gravatar Tried pigeon, didn't enjoy.

My dad is great at doing rabbit stew.

Gravatar A friend of mine occasionally has "weird meat" barbecues. So far, I've had antelope, ostrich, and yak at those. Might also have had armadillo, but can't remember.

We also had haggis at one of them, but I may be one of the few Americans who doesn't think that's all that weird.

Gravatar I once had human meat. It tastes just like pig, but with extra fat. Not good if you have high cholesterol.

Gravatar Anonymous, I'd love to hear the story behind that.

Gravatar I'm not sure I do.

Gravatar Maybe Armin Meiwes is a massive X-Men fan?

Gravatar I think he's more of a LOSH guy.

Gravatar Ultimate Origins would've been good around the time Ultimate Six was coming out, or before Loeb got on the main Ultimates title, when people were actually paying attention to the link between the desire to re-create Captain America and everyone else having powers in the Ultimate U.

I really think that the imprint could be interesting. Ultimate X-Men's kind of spinning its wheels, but they really had some good stuff at the beginning (and even got a good story out of Chuck Austen!). Loeb's pretty much fucking up the Ultimates, who already got thrashed with the delays from when Millar and Hitch were on it.

It's too bad they didn't give it to Ellis or JMS or someone else.

Gravatar I went to my local comic shop today, and they had a BIG pile of Ultimate Origins which they were giving away. Is this a promotional thing, or are they really having trouble shifting it?
