Just to clear something up and make sure I'm not being dense: Original Sin is suggesting that there never was any weapon X programming and that the false memories/memory blocks were actually put in place by Xavier? That's what I seemed to get from the last issue at least.

Rory - yes. However, there's at least fifteen separate stories that work on the premise that Wolverine had memory blocks from the moment he left Weapon X. So that doesn't work.
And Xavier was rooting through Wolverine's head in the same way as this book back in the Larry Hama run, so I don't see the problem...

Which is exactly why I say Origins is ruining the character.
I picked this book up after reading the first few pages in the shop, since it read like a story from the larry hama days, I decided to get it. I was most intruiged by the back up story. Xavier having a go at picking up Sabretooth not only does make sense (if you take it this was when he was looking for mutants to form the 2nd genesis squad), but was a retcon that works. It doesn't cause problems (that I could see) to past stories.

"Original Sin" is all a bit confusing. I *think* they're saying that Xavier dismantled Wolverine's previous programming and replaced it with programming of his own, which is why Wolverine stopped being a pawn of Romulus at that point. They also seem to be crediting Xavier with creating some of Wolverine's memory gaps (which are now, it seems, being credited to at least three separate causes - absurdly confusing). The problem is that Xavier already knows the information he's trying to help Wolverine learn in WEAPON X: FIRST CLASS, and seems to have taken active steps to stop Wolverine learning it.

"The problem is that Xavier already knows the information he's trying to help Wolverine learn in WEAPON X: FIRST CLASS, and seems to have taken active steps to stop Wolverine learning it."
You think maybe it'll tie in somehow? (my guess is on no, thanks to the "pick and choose" approach)

" It's four dollars, but for that, you get a total of 32 story pages "
And people wonder why kids don't read comics any more.

Wait, Way is trying pin it on Xavier when he's clearly read the Hama run?
I'M SO CONFUSED!

So is the First Class line being positioned as a separate continuity, like the Adventures titles it resembles, or is it supposed to be a cleaned up version of the main 616 continuity? This Weapon X series certainly seems to be muddying the waters. Do Marvel even know?

As near as I can fathom, the answer is that they have a sort of one-way relationship with Marvel Universe continuity. MU stories count for First Class books, but not vice versa.

They have been referencing all of the first class stories in the hardcover series of the Official Handbooks, so that pretty much means they're official 616-canon. Which I'm not really a fan of, but there ya go.

I can't believe you like the shoddy half assed sloppy artwork on this Paul.
Hal the time he draws professor x with a literal egghead and Sabretoot looks like a drag queen in fur.
I wasn't really confused about how this all fits into continuity before but now reading all the comments i am ugh.
How can First Class be considered 616 continuity when it's clearly not even close ?
