Gravatar I found this on another web forum. I don't know who it's by and sadly neither did they, but I think it's great. (Note: John Smeaton is the Glaswegian airport worker who gave many interviews to the BBC, CNN, etc shortly after the attack.)

John Smeaton
'Twas doon by the inch o' Abbots
Oor Johnny walked one day
When he saw a sicht that troubled him
Far more that he could say
A fanatic muslim bastard
Wiz doin what he'd planned
And intae Glesca's departure hall
A Cherokee he'd rammed.

A big Glaswegian polis
Came forward tae assist
He thocht "a wumman driver"
Or at least someone half-pissed
But to his shock nae drunken Jock
Emerged to grasp his hand
But a flamin' Arab loony
Frae Al Qaeda's band

The mad Islamist nut-case
Had set hissel' on fire
And swung oot at the polis
GBH his clear desire
Now that's no richt wur Johnny cried
And sallied tae the fray
A left hook and a heid butt
Required tae save the day.

Now listen up Bin Laden
Yir sort's nae wanted here
For imported English radicals
Us Scoatsman huv nae fear
Oor hame grown Glesca Asians
Will have nae bluidy truck
So take yer worldwide Jihad
An get yersel tae F***

Gravatar Is it me, or do the Glasgow "terrorist attacks" seem like something out of a Simon Pegg film?

Gravatar Yes, staggeringly inept terrorism. Sorry, "terror". I suppose we should be grateful that they didn't use their brains and do something involving their jobs as doctors, as they may have been able to pull something off.

Gravatar It's interesting to read your remarks, Paul, because the impression I've been getting over here from the American media (Fox News aside, I guess) is that it was a horrible disaster only barely averted by sheer dumb luck. There have been lots of "it could happen here" stories, and several stories about the amazing courage of the British people, going about their daily affairs in the face of such a threat. Maybe it's just a slow news cycle, but it seems that the Americans are terribly concerned about you all, in our own self-centered way, of course.

Gravatar Re: the Flash

I'm sure DC's going to claim that no harm was done because (a) #14 and #15 weren't canceled so much as "replaced" with the Waid stories and (b) ALL-FLASH #1 and FLASH #231 are fully returnable IF you ordered heavily enough. Still, it'd be interesting to see what should happen if one of the larger retailers should pursue legal action; IANAL (six hours of media law as part of a radio/TV/film degree) but I doubt that would hold up in court.

Gravatar "[...] ALL-FLASH #1 and FLASH #231 are fully returnable IF you ordered heavily enough."

I understand they're returnable anyway, as far as the original orders are concerned, since they're not the books which were ordered in the first place.

Of course, there's probably something ethically questionable to be made of the fact that DC even bothered to come up with their "200%" scheme if they knew it was going to be rendered moot as a factor in the books' returnability, anyway.
