I've enjoyed the Old Man Logan arc, somewhat. It's nice to see Wolverine trying to be something he's not.
I take issue with the recent issue because the previews have spelled out who the president is, in the future world. I read the issue 3 times, and didn't see it. Only after looking on Wiki, did I see it was supposed to be the Red Skull? They did a shot of him in Mt. Rushmore, but considering that the first cover had Cap. America as a skull, I assumed it was just a memorial to Cap, and not about Red Skull.
Also, Exiles has been terrible, since Claremont took over. Someone as Marvel needs to dig up Winick, or at least Bedard, and try to have stories where the team is together, with no mind control, or evil X-men stuff going on. Also, a coherent plot mind help some. But, I think that's something that is a rarity, especially with some of Marvel's recent work.

Jim Bowie is notable down here (southeast Texas, where Galveston Island is) for having fought at the Alamo and popularized the Bowie knife (basically just a big knife carried sheathed and with the clipped point). I'm honestly not sure I'd expect anyone who didn't take state history in seventh grade to know who he is even in the rest of the US.
As for Lafitte, he was again fairly significant in this part of the country in the early 19th century, but I'm not sure he's much of a historical figure outside of the Gulf Coast states of the US.

Actually the second entry I get when typing 'House to Astonish' into iTunes was 'Moktar, Prince of Desert' !!

There is quite a bit more to Sir Apropos than is evident in the first issue, but you're right that it's hard to tell from that issue itself. I suspect the real narrative will get rolling next issue, once Apropos finds out what the treasure he's been looking for is. This issue is kind of an introduction to the character, and a chance for David to take a few good-natured jibes at The Dark Tower. (He did something similar with LotR in one of the novels.
By the way, this is a new story, and not an adaptation of any of the novels.

Winick and Bedard are still exclusive to DC, AFAIK. And considering how awful their work has been there, do you really want them to come back?

I remember not minding the first Sir Apropos novel, but the second was the kind of pun-fest that David seems like he's always holding back. For a guy who can often be genuinely funny, it routinely saddens me how he so often dives for the most simplistic kind of humor.

I didn't get that Magneto montage. You think that's supposed to be frustrating intentionally? Why?

I think they're deliberately keeping the superhuman stuff off-panel, and leaving it to implication, in order to avoid disrupting the tone of the story.

Oh, Paul, I think you give them too much credit. The Magneto series is nothing but another X-Men: Die by the Sword, though with a better story.

I'm in the Northeast US, and Jim Bowie is fairly well-known, at least to the extent that Davy Crockett and the rest of the legendary frontiersmen are. He'd be a good subject for historical adventure fiction. Hadn't heard of Lafitte before, though.

There's a pretty entertaining Cecil B. DeMille movie about Lafitte, called The Buccaneer, about his role in the War of 1812. Frederic Marsh played him.

side side note: David Bowie named himself after Jim because his real name (David Jones) was already in use (pop-wise) by Davey Jones (of the Monkees not the locker)

It appears from the advance solicits over on CBR that New Exiles is getting cancelled. Hmmm, that relaunch worked well then.

$3.99 for 32 pages is popping up everywhere.
Even on the best X-book, X-Men First Class:Finals. Why they can't give us more than one page of Colleen Coover strips, especially at $4, is beyond me.
Marvel is being very, very stupid to put 32 pages at $3.99. At least TRY to act like you're not enjoying jacking up the price with a quarter increase instead.

Looks like a re-relaunch to me, from the rest of the solicit.
