Ilva, this sounds like the kind of place I want to live. I want that sense of community, of belonging to something bigger than myself yet small enough I can understand it. I miss living in a small rural area. We live in a huge urban city and everything is so instant. The neighbors hardly speak because we are all too busy going to work so we can buy more things. What happened to neighbors who used to sit on the front porch after dinner in the evenings? What happened to knowing all the little kids on the block and their mothers, and their mother's mother? We are so disconnected with one another these days. Can I come live with you? lol!

Vickie-I agree with you, I love the slower pace that I can live here and that my children are growing up in a place where they are allowed to have an identity. But sometimes I looooong for the metropolis and for people who have travelled and lived more like I have done in my life...

Your neighbors and community sound really nice (too bad the summer dinner was cancelled, though). I like that idea of supplying everything for the pregnant mother.
I like the sound of this spaghetti with capers pesto. The other day, I used up the rest of the capers, and anchovy fillets. I wish I'd seen this before I went grocery shopping today. I'm sick and wasn't sure what I wanted to eat. I ended up going to buy fish, but I think that this recipe would hit the spot. Maybe tomorrow, I'll buy them. Thanks for the nice recipe.

That sounds lovely, that tradition of feeding the pregnant lady. I really wish I had neighbors like that when I was pregnant! I agree with Vicki...I would love to see what it is like to live there. By the way, I have been listening to some Italian CDs. I guess it's just wishful thinking. I can tell you I want to eat or drink something among several other things. It's been fun! There are always the better and worse neighbors, coworkers, drivers, family members. Too bad it spoiled the traditional dinner. Now THAT is worth fighting over!

This sounds so interesting! I would never have thought of making pesto with capers! I love your descriptions of the 'slower' life there...I can't imagine living in medieval homes with other families so close by (though not a bad thought!), but I can definitely picture all of you eating and laughing together in the square. Keep sharing little bits of your life! I'm curious though...how did you meet your husband and come to live there?

Ilva - the pesto sounds wonderful, but best of all I love hearing about life in your little town!

Hi there.
Just a foodie who found this blog by chance. Thanks to the chef for the caper pesto. I have tried your recipe on my friends recently and they loved it. A really good idea.
