Lucullian delights

Gravatar In my family, we traditionally have Brussels sprouts at Christmas with the English roast beef and Yorkshire pudding and trifle! So maybe people are just getting a jump on Christmas?! These look lovely ... so how much oil are you using? It must be a lot, for the sprouts to cook so fast?

Gravatar Alanna-a lot of people eat Brussels sprouts for Christmas in Sweden as well! No I don't use much oil but as the sprouts are cut into four pieces they cook quite quickly. Might also be that I like them more 'al dente' than you!

Gravatar I think of them as a Christmas thing, although I didn't have them as a kid because I (foolishly) wouldn't touch them!

Now I love them, of course.

Gravatar Consider a lovely heritage turkey, simply prepared with a few herbs, along with creamy mashed potatoes and sausage stuffing. Or perhaps a lovely roast beef with a gratin of winter vegetables. These are the types of food most Americans enjoy at holidays. Perhaps one shouldn't dismiss "festivities" menus quite so readily as they sound right up your (proverbial) culinary alley?!

While available year-round, Brussels sprouts are currently in season (here in the US).

Gravatar Anonymous-I wouldn't say that I dismissed these kind of menus, if you re-read my post you will realize that I just don't consider them particularly representative for the best food of each country. And being a European, I was not thinking of the U. S. in particular. I can also tell you that Brussels sprouts are currently in season here as well...

Gravatar Ilva, I never liked brussel sprouts but like you, I've been seeing a lot of recipes for them lately on the blogs and some of them I like. I'll add yours to my list of recipes to try. I thought that the reason I've been seeing the brussels sprouts is because they are in season. I've never had them or seen anyone have them for thanksgiving, but that doesn't mean anything -- especially in my household where we have nontraditional dish in addition to the traditional.

P.S. Oh! When you get a chance, could you e-mail me, please.

Gravatar You know, I'm sure that many things could be improved by the addition of rosemary and parmesan, lol!

Gravatar Paz-I'm sure you're right!

s'kat-oh yes, they are great!

Gravatar I will prepare it for launch. Thank you!
