Excellent! Since it's mid-winter in the Northern Hemisphere and I'd love to be seasonal, I suggest a root vegetable of some sort should be on the list

I too suggest that we keep this seasonal. Now, here in Canada seasonal has a different meaning to seasonal in Italy, but I would be disappointed to see, say, asparagus or fresh tomatoes on the list.
My suggestion:
Butternut squash

Hurray! Thank you, Ilva. You are such a nice person to do this. I have to admit that for about a year there the only reason I kept my food blog going was so that there was a possibility that Paper Chef would keep going...
I'll put a post up over at Tomatilla! this weekend and I am going to nominate paprika.

I hope people don't think this is a totally boring ingredient, but I propose lentils.

Perhaps it's time for me to try blogging a bit in English, now that I've taken up knitting too ...
My suggestion is my fellow countryman, the swede!

Hi Ilva,
Thank you for taking on and continuing with this food blogger event. It looks a lot of fun.
I second Kalyn's suggestion for lentils.

Ilva, I think it's absolutely wonderful that you're taking over Paper Chef -- thank you! Dave and I have been FTBTB (Far Too Busy To Blog) for some time now, but this just might pull us out of the woodwork!
Oh, and if it's not too late, Dave nominates offal. Heh. He's probably been saving that one for a while.

I would suggest that the ingredients can be purchased here in New Zealand and down-under countries as we have different seasons from you guys up there. Think about it: when you are in Summer, we are in Winter. When you are enjoying strawberries, we could only use frozen ones here which I don't think Iron Chef would ever recommend. I'd love to join in!

arfi-well, I add whatever you suggest and then a random number generator draws the numbers so if people from the two hemispheres suggest seasonal ingredients, we all have the same probability to get ingredients that are in season somewhere! And if someone can't find a particular ingredients for some reason, they can substitute it dor something similar. So if fresh strawberries are drawn, those in the winter hemisphere can always substite it for strawberry jam or frozen ones or something like that! and please participate next time!
