Lucullian delights

Gravatar As a child I hated it because it was "gritty tasting" - I don't think there is an adequate english word for it. Love the stuff now though, and this soup will be added to the Sunday Soup repertoire you can be sure.

Gravatar spinach and cumin - a wonderful combination. something i am familiar in indian cooking. i like it in an uncomplicated soup like this. thanks for the idea!

Gravatar I think kids just repeat what other kids say. Once my daughter was telling a friend she hated spinach. I said "No you don't, you eat Spanakopita all the time"; and very surprised she asked, "That is SPINACH?"
The soup looks amazing Ilva.

Gravatar As a new reader, I just wanted to say I'm not checking for flaws... I love your beautiful food pictures, thoughtful writing, and tasty recipes (I hope to make this soup soon). I also love the idea of egg yolks in the soup to make it a bit more filling.

Gravatar I am one of the newbies, having discovered you through the Bon Appetit Blog Envy entry. I am so happy to have discovered you! Reading your blog takes me back to my long-ago days attending school in Italy. In the past few days I've rediscovered a little taste of my memories from your rustic focaccia recipe. It takes my little kitchen in Virginia across the Atlantic...at least in my mind!

Your photography is amazing--I really love your management of light. Also, good luck with your kids--we do appreciate that life has priorities. Just don't forget caring for yourself, either.

Gravatar How ever you blog Ilva, I like it ! Do the way you feel the best !
Ciao,

Gravatar I'm also a newbie who found you through Bon Appetit Blog Envy, and I don't see any dust! Your website is beautifully laid out. Love the idea of spinach and cumin soup. It sounds like a healthy and delightful combination.

Gravatar Your soup looks and sounds really good. We always loved spinach in my household. I guess it was because of the way it was prepared. I like the color here, too.

Paz

Gravatar My kids also love cooked spinach, which I also marvel at because I hated it when I was a kid. But then again, it came in a can. Gag.

This recipe sounds wonderful. I just made some stracciatella last weekend. Next time I have a clamshell of spinach to eat up, I'll give this recipe a go. Cumin is one of my favorite flavors during the winter, besides!

Gravatar I've been sort os silently reading your blog for a while, and made some of your recipes, and I really like it. Good luck w the kids!

Gravatar My daughter has always liked spinach too. I love spinach soup. My two favorites are with fennel and with zucchini. I might try to adapt you recipe though (I can't have cream or egg yolks) to make a mexican flavored one though. Sounds good.

Gravatar This soup sounds delicious and seems a quick recipe for weeknights. Your blog is a delight!

Gravatar Non ti preoccupare bella! I think your readership likes your personal touch. I also understand what it is like when life gets busy and it takes every ounce of leftover energy to blog. (As you can see by my lack of blogging in the last six months!) You are amazing in that you post something beautiful and/or delicious every day. Thank you for sharing yourself with us. xo, Jeni

Gravatar Ilva, I don't have spinach, but do eat silver beet (chard, and related to spinach). I usually call it a "slightly metallic" after-taste, but if I use young leaves straight from the garden they don't have it.

With dinner guests coming tomorrow I'm going to try this soup. Have an abundance of new, spinach-sized leaves of silver beet in the garden at the moment. Thank you for the idea - I was wondering what to serve and this seems so quick and easy.

Teenagers do eventually grow out of their teens and turn into delightful adults, thank goodness. The thing they need most is loving care from their parents. It sounds as if that's what you're giving them.

Gravatar Love the color of this soup!! Cumin sounds beautiful with spinach.
I would agree with Helen and call it slightly metallic tasting.
Teenagers really are special, very in so many ways.

Gravatar I'm still here, old friend. You don't have to tidy up.

Gravatar I too am one of the new readers, and I wanted to let you know you have yet to do anything but impress me with your beautiful photography and recipes.

Gravatar Merry Christmas dear Ilva!

Gravatar Hi! This is my first time here and the first of your recipes that I have seen! I don't really eat a lot of vegetables; more carbs than anything. I never thought of putting cumin with spinach, and I even have some leftover cream from a dessert I made earlier today! Thanks so much for this recipe, I'm going to be trying it this weekend!

Gravatar josh- Welcome! I hope you will like the soup!
