Ilva, this is my absolute favorite drink!! I usually stock up when I go to Sorrento - I still have a reserve bottle left. I tried making it when I was back in the States but it didn't come out great (cant buy grain alcohol in California) - so I'm looking forward to trying your recipe out here.

I make something similar we call Cherry Bounce (but without the milk). It's just sour cherries and sugar in vodka. Let it sit for about a month, strain it and it's ready to drink. Very sweet and good! I wonder what your's tastes like?

I'm used to your great photos now, but that bottle top jerked me right out of my usual nodding and smiling approval. It's simply great.

Ilva - how long will this keep in the refrigerator? Surely it won't keep at room temp with the dairy in it. I suppose other cream-of drinks like Bailey's must have some kind of stabilizer in it to keep the milk or cream from spoiling.

Sara-Oh, so you just have to make it here. I hope it's the right recipe for you, if not you just change the amount of sugar!
Sally-That sounds good!
Tanna-Lemon is a winner!
doodles-aha, good to know!
Judith-Thanks, you are so nice to stop and tell me!
Linda-wow, that makes me feel good!
Merisi-I'll tell my family that when they complain about me! Ha-I'm a wonderwoman!
Carolyn-The magazine actually says to keep it in the freezer and maybe that's the best thing to do if you don't drink it up quickly! I'm going to add it to the post.
Patricia-yes and it ususally is much better tasting if you make it yourself!

Next time they complain, have them watch the movie "Montevideo", a wonderful black-and-white movie, with a story-line similar to "Pane e Tulipani", but with a very different ending. Very different. They won't complain ever again! ))

Ilva, I've always wanted to make my own limoncello, a drink which I love, but over here in Australia we can't buy alcohol to the proof you have over in Italy. Thanks for the recipe. I wonder if vodka would be a suitable substitute?

Steven-In Sweden you can't get hold of it either but if you know a student of dentistry or medicine or even better a doctor, you can usually get hold of the alcohol anyway. Here in Italy they sell it in the supermarkets... Try with the strongest vodka you can get and tell me what happens, it should work ok I think! UPDATED: check out Anita's comment below!
corey-you mean that you didn't know that??!! It's great to see that life holds a lot of surprises for you...

95% ABV?! Wow. The highest proof we get here in the States is 150-ish for pure grain alcohol (aka "everclear").
I actually prefer to infuse with 100-proof vodka -- which I had to use when I lived in another state where 101 was the maximum legal proof -- and even 80-proof vodka or grappa works in a pinch.
If you use a lesser strength base, remember that you'll need to add less water (for limoncello) or milk (for crema) to reach the desired strength of alcohol. If you dilute it too much, it will may not keep properly.
I would never have thought to freeze a cream liqueur -- does it not curdle?

Somehow I missed this. I love limoncello and make my own with vodka because I can't get the Italian "alcool etilico" here. I'm going to have to make a new batch as "crema" because I know I'm really going to like it. It reminds me of a recipe I have for "latte di vecchia". I'm going to look it up, maybe it's the same thing??

It's made with milk, ethyl acohol, sugar, vanilla bean and a whole leomon. It's my grandmother's or great aunt's recipe, I think.
If you send me your email, I'll send you the whole recipe.
