No. mine has auto recharge coz i believe my spouse did that for me. it's fairly easy to cancel it;
1. click on the "view account", it is next to ur current account credit status (e.g. mine is 5.33 euro skype credit).
2. click on "view details" next to "payment setting" under "setting and extra".
3. sign in to your payment setting page using your username and password.
4. on the first sheet (auto recharge), there is the status of your auto recharge, if it is enabled or sisabled. If it is enabled, then..
5. click on the word "disable" next to "enabled" on "status" row.
6. Skype will question if you are sure you want to cancel the auto recharge, click on "yes" if you do.
7. Done
I like what skype does to protect our credit card. One card can only pay for one account for a some period of time in the beginning of the transaction. it is fairly expensive compare to other voip, but skype is hardly block-able (in some offices, the IT will block messenger tools like yahoo or msn messenger), spend very little bytes (which is significant for people who subscribe internet on volume based), it also provide better service, IMHO. I have been using skype very intensive the last five years-btw.
i am no sure if it is by default. but a lot of people forgot that once upon a time they ha money and they enable the auto recharge. then when they have less money and kept loosing money automatically, they complain. been here, done that. not anymore, insyaAllah
