I've just read two paragraphs of yours that were cogent, well-paced, and properly punctuated. You can write. I think you're thinking too much.

This is the first paper of your first class. In the grand scheme of things, not much is riding on it. When I taught, I always used the first paper as a barometer--of each student, and of the class as a whole.

Here's basic essay composition in three sentences:

Omit needless words. Keep your sentences short. Don't be conversational.

You can do it!

My proofreading services are hereby proffered. And I agree with some of the commenters: your blog proves you can write.

With college/university essays, remember that you're making an argument. You have to state very clearly, up front, what that argument is about. And you have to prove/support that argument.
