well, what a difficult question to adress in the abstract. a truely good band name might ideally reflect some aspect of the aesthetic intent of the music. though, on the other hand, maybe not. when i consider the bands i like and the names they have, perhaps it is merely that the music is good which makes the name memorable. for instance, if john, paul, george and ringo had called themselves something else, say -
bread pudding. and there was a band now called the beatles that did very beat oriented music, lke trip hop or house or whatever, I would hate it.
or how about radiohead? they didnt even pick or like that name themselves. but they are great.
