I think about that ALL the time. Velcro pockets, my friend. Velcro pockets.

Gravatar My fear is not grates, but those big ol' gaping drainage holes under the corner of some sidewalks. I have this utterly irrational fear that one day I'm going to try to leap up onto the curb, miss, and go leg first down the hole.

I worry sometimes about dropping my glasses over the edge of things.

I also dislike the toothy thing at the bottom of escalators, but at least I understand the basis of that unease; I fell on an escalator once as a child, and only avoided a face plant because of the quick reflexes of my grandmother.

Gravatar Not only do I have grate anxiety (tightly clutching my keys in my pocket whenever I have to walk over a sidewalk grate), I also have a strange fear about locking my keys in my car--not accidentally, which is the sort of thing that can happen to anyone, but rather that I might be suddenly seized with the bizarre and self-destructive impulse to throw my keys back into the car as I'm closing the locked door. So I usually hold the keys in one hand at arm's length behind me while closing the car door with the other, just to safeguard against this weird possibility.

I've just discovered your blog (hence my commenting on an archived post four months after you wrote it), and I'm really enjoying it and will read it regularly. Thanks!
