Yes, indeed -- teaching days can be very much like endurance events. I used to find that I would have all of this build-up time (pre-event) and then ramp-down time each week. Amazing how that activity can consume one's energy far beyond the appointed meeting time.
BTW ... I say "used to" not b/c I am now superhuman and have a great way of managing it all, but because I have a rather funky teaching assignment at the moment which changes everything.

I'm still about a week away from my first day, but I can already start to feel my physiology changing . . . I haven't been sleeping quite as well, and my body's just preparing, it seems, to be "on" again. It's weird, because it feels kind of good/energizing, but also jangly/draining at the same time. And I *never* sleep well at all before the first day of classes . . . simply too much adrenaline! (I'm so glad I'm not the only one!)
