I hear ya on the no-storage thing. My partner and I live in a house that's old enough that the closets are actually not deep enough for a modern hanger. Our house isn't so much small as it is strange, with very few walls straight and long enough for a wardrobe (lots of now-defunct chimneys jutting into the rooms and things like that). Good for you for your regular pruning of the stuff that accumulates; maybe I'll be inspired to do some of this myself this week, especially since my family is descending for the day next weekend. The house will never pass my mom's inspection--an impossible goal--but at least I could get a little more organized. Good luck to you!

Oh, I know those houses...we lived in one for a year. Good luck with all the cleaning and purging! (which sounds a little bad, somehow...) We purged a whole ton of stuff in our move, but went from a 3 BR house to a 1 BR apt. The apt is pretty spacious, but it seems to be designed for one person's worth of storage, and we find ourselves with all sorts of plastic tubs stacked everywhere storing things. It works, but isn't very pretty.

Sounds like the house we lived in in Bloomington. Fortunately that house had a basement, which meant we could store all the off-season clothes there. Actually, even the house we are living in now, though built in 1991 is really lacking in adequate storage space. This seems to be a general problem in the area, as most houses in Shady Grove use the garage for storing stuff instead of cars.
Your Sunday evening sounds very nice. We've declared Sunday evening family night: we take turns selecting a movie to watch (it's Judu's turn tonight) and eat a dinner of finger food while the movie plays. It definitely helps with the Sunday grumps!

I agree with Jimbo re: Sunday night finger foods and movies and am always relieved to hear about others experiencing the Sunday grumps.
This may be a stupid question and/or the answer too detailed but I'm wondering about the scanning since you've mentioned it a few times and I know how time consuming it can be. Are there so few links available for what you're doing that you must scan in your own texts for posting?? Just curious.
I hear you on the clothes. I tend to mentally mark the date by pre and post-kid and since mine are now nearly 7 and 9, retaining anything pre-kid sounds ludicrous but yet my wardrobe is replete with clothes from that era.

I empathize completely on the lack of storage thing -- PowerHubby and I lived in a studio apartment for YEARS! Creativity and a willingless to purge is essential

I had an apartment once with no storage space. Zip. Nada. It was hell. Absolute hell (for a packrat, anyway). Ever since it has been one of the first things I check out.
Do you hem your own pants? I'm so bad about that stuff. I bring 'em home to mama ... or buy petites ... or buy capris so it doesn't matter.
Hope it was a good Sunday.

Michelle: I'm scanning these readings as a substitute for the reserves desk at our library, which has intricate rules about what they will scan or not, and a tendency to lose items along the way. Using a password-protected system like WebCT (not the general web) means you have educational copyright fair use for such items, just the same as if I handed out xeroxes in class.
So, the short answer is, no, these texts aren't available on the web somewhere.
profgrrrrl: yup, I hem. And I'll shorten sleeves, although lined jackets are a pain to deal with. Otherwise I'd be reduced to wearing nothing but jeans and t-shirts.

Jimbo & Michelle: can you please explain what finger foods are? that sounds so 1950s. . . like those old cookbooks with color pictures of bologna rolled up with toothpicks in it.
(I don't have kids so I suppose this answer would be obvious to someone who did...)

What exactly is wrong with wearing jeans and tshirts?

Finger foods: things like pizza, vegtable sticks, popcorn, nuts, chips and salsa, bread and cheese. Really anything that requires minimal utensils and can be eaten safely with kids in front of the TV.

I take all my pants to be hemmed at the local dry-cleaners, and even then it always takes forever just to pin them at the right length and remember to drop them off. But it would never get done otherwise (I have no domestic skills, and no interest in acquiring any)

My question about your wardrobe is how you've figured out how reconcile black with chalk. I always end up absolutely covered in chalk dust.
(And to those who can't hem, they sell this nifty iron-on tape at the fabric store which, while not perfect, can be quite convenient.)

ah, yes, the chalk problem. I used to spend several minutes after each class brushing off. But now many of the rooms I teach in have been whiteboarded, so the only trick is remembering to carry the dry erase markers around with me.

PS, the idea being its a community spread and everyone just gathers around while watching TV and it's more relaxed that napkin-in-lap manners-on at the table. We also have "pizza picnics" and sit on a blanket and eat pizza.
