I think that's justification to kill, in most states. No questions asked.
Last year I had to endure someone printing a 500-page technical manual on the day some internal grants were due. And this puppy had large graphics and such. Needless to say, the junior faculty all were standing around the printer, watching it print, and ready to cry.

Aargh! Please tell me that the person who committed this offense had the sense to apologize/be embarrassed. If not, then, yes -- I second Profgrrl's assessment of justifiable homicide.

Oh and don't forget the "I didn't realize that type of overhead didn't go in the printer" people.
I'm impressed with the computer-printed lecture notes. Mine are hand written scrawly messes.

I had a colleague like that in my last job - in his case he insisted in printing out every single frickin piece of e-mail he ever received. He was printing about 200 pp. one day (when I was printing out class notes, of course!), and said, "I've been out of town for 2 weeks, it's just amazing how it piles up, I'm just deluged" (you have to imagine the completely unctuous voice suggesting that only he gets this amount of e-mail b/c only he is that important). He was printing out e-mails announcing events that had taken place 10 days before.
Anyway, I think the secretaries may put him out of his misery soon...

I'm with profgrrrrl on this one: justifiable homicide.
Hope you managed to get your lecture notes printed out!

S/he's probably the sort to cut you off in traffic, too. Some people are inconsiderate and some are just clueless. I love the ding-dongs who fax 40 pages when they're three blocks away. It's even better when there's tons of black stuff on the page because another ding-dong copied with cover up. Let's eat up that ink and take our sweet time. Good lord.
