Gravatar I can honestly say I've never paid attention to the frequency of nail-cutting (or hair-cutting). Every week or ten days? I dunno. I know even less about my hair...I think it's every few months. I let it get really shaggy before I plunk down that $12.95 at the CostCutters. Somehow I think I'm not your target audience for this question.

Gravatar I'm always filin', filin', filin' my nails, but even so, for true shortness it's about every ten days.

I worked as an orchestral and church musician in my student days, and at that time, nail clipping was more frequent than that.

Gravatar Since I picked up the guitar a couple months ago, I keep the left had very short and file it every other night or so (if I’m playing). The other hand I let grow until they start to either snag or they get bent on something because they’re so long. I file that hand maybe once a week to avoid snags. I don’t use clippers. Haircut is every 3-4 months.

Gravatar Nails are on about a five-day cycle for me. I like to keep them very short, though, so it doesn't take much for me to become bothered by them. I'm very lazy about my hair, though, which is why I just wear it long. I can get away with getting it cut once or twice a year.

Gravatar I keep my nails long & have since I was about 12. But I trim/file them at least once a week. And I clean them whenever they need it (sometimes several times a day if I'm into a bunch of gunk - I'm a bit obsessive about it).

As far as typing with nails goes, my nails aren't so long that they get in the way, but they are at least 1/4 long. They are my built-in tools. I would be lost without them. Besides, I hate feeling stuff touch the very tops of my fingers - feels creepy.

Gravatar I ought to cut my nails every four to five days; even at my girliest, my nails always look awful. As it is, though, I tend to whack them all off once every two weeks or so, once they really start getting in the way.

Gravatar My hair is entirely another story. It had been quite short a couple of years ago, and I was getting it cut pretty religiously, every four weeks or so, because I also color it (more for fun than for gray, but... well, recently, that too). But I decided to let it grow. And so I stretched the cuts out to about every six or seven weeks, to get maximum growth between trims. But then, in May, my hairstylist had a dog-related accident that resulted in the shattering of her knee. And when I went into the salon to deliver a get-well card, and they told me that she might be out for as long as six months, and the salon owner pretty much tried to poach me as a client, I got a bit wigged out (no pun intended), and decided that this was a golden opportunity to complete the hair regrowth course. So I've been doing my own color, and I haven't had a haircut since May.

Gravatar (Sorry for the multi-comment; got caught by the character-max police.)

Gravatar Nails get trimmed once a week and before July I was getting a haircut every 10 days. At that time my hair was 1 inch long and looked very shaggy after 10 days. Now that I'm growing it out every day feels like annoying overgrowth but I'm up to 3 inches.

Gravatar I have no idea how often I cut my nails; just whenever they get long enough to be annoying. But I'm like ABD2004, I have to have some length to them - great tools, and I understand about the creepiness of having stuff touch the top of my fingers. On the other hand, they're not a great shape to get very long - they seem to get wider rather than longer.

Conversely, I cut my toenails all the time b/c I hate feeling any length on the toes. Go figure.

Hair, I should get it cut every 6 weeks but I do it every 8 (a holdover from living in tiny town where I had to drive forever to get a decent haircut - I've not quite realized yet that I don't have to schedule a special trip out of town just to get my hair cut!). I am in your boat at the moment - I really really need a haircut, but the stylist I found (and liked) here was 8 months pregnant at my last cut so I doubt she's available right now!

Gravatar Embarrassed as I am too admit it, I still bite my nails, so clipping happens rather regularly to smooth them out.

I haven't gotten my hair cut in 6 months. I figure this is my last chance to have it somewhat long (shoulder-length) before I start looking like one of those women who is trying to look young, so I'm going to enjoy it.

Gravatar I HATE that feeling! It happens overnight, too. One day, you can make it do stuff with "product" but the next, it's all 'hie thee to a supercuts'!

AD Husband bought us a Roomba, BTW ...

Gravatar I mostly file the rough spots on my nails, but they don't get very long--I play handball, which tends to self-limit the length. My hair gets trimmed every three months or so; it's been long for, let's see, about 33 years? The woman who cuts my hair knows I just want the ratty ends trimmed off. My toenails probably need trimming at least once/week, because several of my toes curl under and the nails split (vertically) and so on.

Gravatar Hmmm! I keep my nails way short so I can't bite them. I trim every 9 to 10 days, I'd guess. Just enough longer than a week that it doesn't feel like a pattern.

It's only the corners that bug me, though. I can switch to filing and grow them out some, and it's fine.

Hair? Right now, I haven't had it cut since (nervous looks to left and right) February. Yes, I'm growing it out, and yes, it grows slowly, but still... I think the only times I've kept to any sort of once-every-n-weeks regimen were before my wedding and during my job search. Otherwise it's been at most three times a year, even when it was fairly short.
