OOh. You just reminded me of the purple mascara I used to wear. (Why?)
I did love rhinestone brooches.
Saw some in Sephora last week.
I used to wear these real ruffle-y blouses & flouncy skirt and lots of Gunny Sax dresses with the ubiquitous boots. Either that, or big sweaters with leggings... Or skin-tight black satin jeans with little camisole tops... Oh yeah... It's all coming back now... Chandelier earrings, weird scarves & lots & lots of jewelry.

Okay, I must admit I used to love my Reebok hi-tops. They made my feet look like mushrooms, but GAWD were they comfy.
In addition to the ubiquitous Reeboks, I used to often wear a pair of tapered jeans, a hand-me-down bespoke menswear shirt that was far too big for me (on purpose, dammit), and a fringed Indian scarf with sparkly threads running through it.
I have confessed. I feel better now.
I'd forgotten the ties. They were cool. I loved my ties!
Ooh, Gunne Sax! LOVED that stuff. I wanted to be a prairie princess.
And the colored mascara. There's nothing more hideous, but it was great.
And the rhinestone stuff is definitely making a comeback (but more in that colored 50s way, I think).
I just watched the movie "Safe," which is set in the late 80s. The baby shower scene reminded me of a really bad 80s prom dress. Had a bad moment of recognition when I spied the drop-waist dress with built-in shoulderpads AND a giant ruffle right over the derriere. Why? Why?
The one 80s fashion item that I'm still fond of were my tapered jeans with black frog-button closures at the ankles. And, because I spent the bulk of the 80s wearing a Catholic school uniform, large (and I do mean LARGE) dangly earrings became essential to proclaiming one's individuality.
ugh, YC, I'd forgotten the bow on the butt dress -- I had to be a bridesmaid in the late 80s: it had all of the features you mention -- and it was teal! truly horrid.
