Musicals aren't my scene, either. In my late teens, I loved them, but then I discovered opera, and musicals paled in comparison. And it started driving me crazy when I couldn't understand all of the text due to poor enunciation (at least with opera, you get supertitles).
However, I broke down and went to a musical in New York a few years ago when Julie Andrews (pre-vocal-surgery) was starring in Victor/Victoria. And I was amazed by how good the musical performance was.
So I've decided that amateur/semi-pro/regional musicals aren't my thing. In NYC? Maybe. Otherwise, I'll stick to opera. Or a good book.

I love musicals and plays and any kind of live performance. But then again, maybe it's just because I've got kids at home so I will do anything to get out of the house.

I like the musicals, but prefer concerts.
We also have waves of being social and then revert to not seeing people for awhile.
enjoy!

I'm against musicals, too (unless they are completely tasteless campy ideas--i once thought it would be funny to do a musical version of schindler's list).
But, mainly, I'm impressed that you are able to budget your social obligations. For the past decade or so, yidg and I have accepted our role as dozens of people default night out. In fact, we were the only faculty members (last night) willing to go out with our brand new colleague who made a last minute trip to town to show her partner around. We had met some grad students out the night before. Now there's a scholar in town for U of Paris staying with Dr. Gym-Partner . . . (and on and on). I've heard of the simple trick of saying NO.

I love stage musicals, I love film musicals, I love operetta, I love opera. I guess I just love the voice in a dramatic setting. The only problem is that, aside from the film musical, it's all so damned expensive.
I hate concerts—unless it involves a piece that was written in the last 20 years or hasn't been recorded.
We also have a habit of punctuated socializing. This past week has been incredibly busy in that regard, but we'd gone weeks before with basically no social engagements. And we don't look to have any again until spring break.

I have no strong opinions about musicals, but nose flautists? Love them!

I love musicals myself, but that includes Andrew Lloyd Webber stuff that even I know is cheesy. (I have pretty much the lowest-common-demoninator taste when it comes to live performances - though I draw the line at Riverdance and the like!) Just saw Little Shop of Horrors live recently and it was sooooooo much fun.
But then, I figured we wouldn't get along musically after reading your 80s music post, to which I didn't dare comment, since I never listened to any of the "cool" or "serious" 80s bands, just the bad ones! (Journey was my favorite band for about 5 years in there - and NOT ironically...)
