Good to hear you had a nice time! I like everything about conferences except the papers. It didn't use to be that way, so I'm wondering if my reaction this year is merely post-tenure exhaustion. I hope so!

I enjoyed MLA, too, even though I was/am still looking for a tenure-track job. The "tribal" aspect may be right....

Even though I spent all but the last 6 months of the previous 13 years in DC, I wasn't at MLA this year, for the first time in three years.
I only missed it a little, but I am reminded by several people, you included, why it can be a good experience.

I agree with you. Post-job market, I seem to enjoy MLA more than ever. It's a welcome respite from grading and teaching. I really like going to panels and getting critically engaged. Glad you enjoyed it too! (Although nothing this year could possibly touch the Toni Morrison/Spivak combo of last year...)
