3. what was the first thought that went through your mind when you found out?
Thank God!

4. what network coverage were you watching at the time you found out?
MSNBC

5. who was the first person you hugged afterwards?
No one. As usual, I was b y myself.

7. know anyone who voted for the first time in this election?
My Son.

8. name one person you wish were alive for that moment. what would that person have said?

9. give one aspect of obama's message that resonates with you.

No. His Presidency is much like Jimmy Carter’s. He will inherit much of the same kind of mess. He can’t turn it around in four years and that will make him a one term President.

18. do you know anyone who voted for mccain/palin? if so, who was it?
Half the people at the day job. They’re still in mourning.

i forgot you worked around a bunch of conservatives. yuck. racist obama jokes? SHIT.

Gravatar We were paying our bill at applebee's when I 1st saw the numbers come in. When I made it home it was official!

i didn't realize folk were out and about that night. i figured everyone would be glued to the television sets.

Gravatar I may steal this meme, girl...

I was watching the news. I was talking to my bff at the time. I told her I was going to sleep, and to call me when and if Obama got the numbers. she called me and said 3 words I would never ever forget... "HE DID IT!"

you went to sleep lee?!? why am i not surprised! nothing fazes u. lol

Gravatar I was downtown in Chicago. Not Grant Park where he spoke. But right across the street in a hotel event sponsored by Jesse Jackson Jr.

REALLY?!? lucky bastid! um, was jj sr. in attendance? something tells me he wasn't. aiight, am i the only one who thought sr.'s tears were orchestrated for the cameras?

Gravatar I was @ home watching CNN with the kids when Obama was elected President.

They SHOULD have been in bed [it was a school night] but dammit history was in the making so I let em' stay up to witness it.

i wish i had kids so they could have been alive to experience this moment. first time i think ever that i regretted not having kids.

Gravatar This was good. I am in GA too! This is the first time in a long time that I didn't give a crap that my state didn't vote the way I did! I actually worked the polls in North Fulton County. Those folks were worried all day because there weren't any lines, so they knew it was all over.

lol@"they knew it was all over"...n. fulton must be the conservative folk. i'm in decatur, where almost everybody votes democrat and it was a huge turnout.

Gravatar Why did I know it was ONLY a matter of time before one of these came about?

because...well, just because damnit!

Gravatar My Wifey and I were watching it on a wide screen tv monitor in a Sportsbar amidst a predominately white crowd..
We were one of about maybe six Black couples there..but everyone there was overjoyed that he won.

They had CNN on.

I called my cousin

I hugged my wife, she was the only one in there that I knew.

My 24 year old Nephew voted for his first time.

I wished my Mom was alive to see this..She died in May of this year and she was real hopeful that Obama
would win.

I was in line at 6:30 in the morning,
I was one of the first ones in the polls when they opened at 7:00am.

My State-Pennsylvania was a Blue State.

I knew he was going to win...I
didn't have any doubts..I didn't let those early returns faze me.

you knew? man, you've got faith. i wish i could develop that kind of faith but my cynicism gets the best of me.

Gravatar I was at home watching MSNBC. I was switching back and forth between Real Housewives of Atlanta and the coverage. Right when RHOA went off, I turned to MSNBC and they were showing scenes from Spelman. One girl was on her knees crying. I knew then he did it. I didn't hit me til the Obama family walked out on stage. That's when the tears came.

lmao@u watching rhoa. man...my brother was doing the SAME THING. he kept asking me if i'd seen that show. having obama elected on the same night as that show is like watching both the best and worst about black folk at the same time. lol

Gravatar look at you will your meme writing skills

DOPE!

thanks just trying to keep up witchu.

Gravatar I love your answers. I too didn't believe it when I first saw the screen indicate he was President elect...not until McCain's speech.

Wow @ your grandmother!!! Go granny for Baracking the vote though.

it sank in more when i saw mccain's speech, too. thank goodness he didn't try to protest the results. had it been closer, he probably would have.

i was FLOORED when mom told me her mom hadn't voted before this year. i'm glad she got to vote at least once before she leaves this world.

10. when did you vote? how long was the wait?
Nov. 4th, 2008 4:30 pm 5 minutes.

11. was your state red or blue at the end?

mississippi was red as HELL. how is it that one of the states with the highest number of black folk in the country is never even CLOSE to being blue? i don't get it...

Gravatar hey girl. i like this meme.

1. pulling up to my grandmother's house where my mom and aunts and uncles opened the door and said "we did it!!"

2. around eleven i guess.

3. ohhhh my goodness we have a muthaf*cking black president!!!

4. CNN and MSNBC.

5. my mom, after i jumped around like i'd lost my mind. lol.

6. my friend. he works in the wee hours of the morning so he was sleeping. i called and woke him up and screamed that we had a black president. lol.

7. YES. my 53 year old father, my friend who was sleeping, my 55 year old step mother, my younger brother, ang like 3 of my cousins.

8. my aunt Lona.

9. yes we can!

10. i voted around eleven. the wait was like an hour and a half.

11. BLUE!!

12. driving though the city seeing the voting lines wrapped every which way, i felt good about his chances.

13. i am going to become more involved in the community organizations, esp those geared towards young black men. it is important for them to realize the magnitude of this.

14. i agree with you. convincing the republicans that he knows what he's doing.

15. i think it gives hope. it ignited a sense of pride in black folk that has been lacking for a while.

16. oh no. but i think it's a huge step.

17. yes, definitely. maybe not by the landslide he was this time, but yes.

18. no. and i'm glad. lol.

hope all is well hun!

Gravatar you gotta remember it's more rural places in mississippi than urban. mississippi is 37% african american. so even if all of us voted for him, a good number of the other folk probably didn't.

i was just looking at something today. only 64% of registered voters actually voted. he won my county. but we have the highest black concentration in the state.

so that's how he lost.

Gravatar I may have to steal this for my blog, lady. I was actually a part of a cyber chat/conference call when I found out..we were all screaming and crying..it was wild!

Gravatar not a gawtdamn thing unless his win is a catalyst for ACTION not just AWE....LOVE THAT!

Gravatar This sums it up right here.

My Chicago Election Day Diary

Enjoy.
