Gravatar I wasn't able to find an email address for you, so I hope you don't mind me posting in the comments:

I've been following your blog and your excellent coverage of political developments in Iraq. If you have not heard already, Ayad Jamal Aldin launched a new political party yesterday called Ahrar.

Violence and corruption have become the way of life under the current government. We must create a new way forward, which will provide security, basic services, and a trustworthy government for all Iraqis. The Ahrar Party and it's leader Ayad Jamal Aldin are providing a clear plan that will get us there.

I thought you might be interested in covering the launch of this party on your blog. If you would like information, please get in touch with me and I will be happy to provide it: info [at] ahrarparty.com

You can also find footage of the party launch here: http://ahrarparty.com/en/media/v...y- launches.html

Gravatar I predict every party that brands itself as a religious will lose seats in this election. So Ahrar (as advertised) seems to be a welcome addition to Iraqi politics.

Honestly, I don't see why some Iraqis have an especial beef with Maliki, but (in theory) I prefer seeing his party lose since it will give Iraq a chance to try out a peaceful transfer of power (speaking as an American, not an Iraqi).

Gravatar Mojo, there is a quote by Saddam in this documentary that I had not heard before. It pretty much sums up Iraq under Saddam:

"If there is a person, there is a problem. If there is no person, there is no problem.

Gravatar Mojo,
A thought just occured to me. What would you say if someone claimed that the Iraqi government instituted the first major Zionist return of the Jews to Palestine in 1941?

Gravatar Yes I'd say the Iraqi govt (and it seems the Iraqi people) helped send more Jews to Palestine as a result of the Baathist and Arab nationalist indoctrination. But I believe the number of European Jews who emigrated to Palestine before the Iraqi "Farhood al Yahood" was greater.
