Carbon offsets are a con. The system is based on a multitude of assumptions and averages that are not adequately verifiable. They are simply a means for white, wealthy, tree-hugging liberals to justify their "do as I say, not as I do" activities from private jets to gas guzzling SUVs and luxury cars. Take a private jet and plant a tree and your conscience is wiped clean. Or better yet pay someone to plant the tree for you. And don't bother to try and audit. The true conservations would be riding a bike or electric car and using mass transit when possible. And this is possible for those with an entourage as Mr. Gore since his group becomes their own mass transit, if necessary. They could all take the same plane. Or better yet a train or bus. Get with the program or get off. Don't buy your way out and simply transfer it to the rest of us.
