no, granny does not look tortured. then again, her lovely portrait was not taken in a maximum security military prison. it looks more like a sunny hospital room to me. and i doubt that granny has been sitting in that hospital room for four years without being told why she is there or when she can leave. i know hospital food is pretty bad, and maybe the doctor doesn't have enough time to see her today, but she doesn't look like someone who wants to go on a hunger strike. so don't compare her to the people being held at Guantanamo, please. it's sickening.
What's really torture is having to deal with clueless people like you "k" at gay@gay.com. What's sickening is the audacity of those howling at Gitmo that being force fed was torture. Torture is having your fingernails ripped out one by one, not having a tube put down your nose which takes all of about 30 seconds discomfort to do.
I just stumbled across this blog while doing my reseach on the ethical issues of force feeding. I am sure the author of this post must think highly of herself as being a nurse; it might be wise of this nurse to go back to her nursing school books because the last time I looked we as nurses have certain standards we are to follow. I just hope I am never her patient under her care. Not to mention the fact that these detainees have never even been charged with any crimes. Is it just? No it is not just, it is not ethical to force feed anyone. It is not just to detain anyone without charge. Remember that unjust governments always start with unpopular groups first; one day you may be the unpopular. We were not attacked by a nation. I feel sorry for our troops, and their mothers, but the blame goes to us first.
L - As a nurse it would seem to me that you would be eager to keep someone from dying - not facillitate their death - which is what this post was about - detainees wishing to commit suicide. I really don't want YOU for a nurse that's for sure.
