Please don't think that Jakartass is an aggressive person. If I have a good book on my travels I can ignore the oiks and barbarians and peaceably go my own way.

There's probably a major post to be written equating the paucity of public service and hence public awareness with the contrived distance of the bureaucrats and politicians from the populace.
