Just as an exercise in imagination what do you think this means:
"This regulation actually took effect in March 2006. But since we had to coordinate with the BKPM and the Transportation Ministry, we decided to delay the announcement for this regulation."
and could be there be something behind such a delay?
I noticed that but I read it to mean that they were (are?) still trying to work out who gets what and how big the brown envelopes should be.
Which, of course, explains why we haven't been told 'how much'.
There always seems to a be few solid technocrats that understand investor needs and the need to "get on board" with the modern world, BUT these poor guys are often staunchly opposed by the ignorant NKRI/ORBA heavies, who only see the "Bule" (or Japanese, Korean, etc..) as a cash cow.
Until that second group is in the distinct minority in the govt and legislature, these laws will be nothing but window dressing at best.
Did you see the article in today's Jakarta Post where Josef Kalla said Indonesia should market the fact that Arabs can come to Indonesia and "marry" widows (actually as we all know it's usually a form of legalised underage prostitution).
It's a win win situation apparently, the "widow" (fourteen year old girl sold by her parents) gets a "husband" (for two weeks) and an income (enough cash for her father to buy a new tv), the Arab men have fun (JK thinks we'd be silly to believe all Arab men are devout and only interested in mosques - d'oh) and any kids will be a nice mix and get jobs in sinetrons.
Nice to know the Indonesian establishment don't actually hate our mixed race children after all.

I'm finding it increasingly difficult to retain a sense of humour when I read dumbass 'news' like that. At least the Jakarta Post treated it with the scorn it deserved.
