I cannot understand why you and your brotherhood cannot wait for due process of the law. Why are you so quick to condemn Bakrie? Lets take a look at what's happening in Manado with Mr Ness defending himself in the Newmont at Buyat case. Are you going to pre-judge this one too, or are you staying away in case you take the wrong side, and your readers might remember that you took it? Egg on your face, or mud? Take your pick.

Probably no real need for the mud/egg analogy... these are "only" bloggers after all: openly-opinionated people tapping away at keyboards from their homes and then sticking it up on the internet... what rattles some people (I think) is how the bloggers voices can now sit alongside that of the "real", "impartial" and "uncensored" press... Good or bad? I don't know. True, you usually have to trawl through ten tons of amateur home-made crap to find something of substance on the internet, but if you want to hear what one or two people think about certain issues (particularly in a place that's run as filthily corrupt as Indonesia is...) then, on a good day, the bloggers can offer a valid alternative view of what's happening... At the very least you have a choice. Take your pick.

A study by Greenomics Indonesia estimated last month that the mudflow at the time had caused Rp 33 trillion (US$3.6 billion) in losses to local people and their environment.
The above is from the front page of today's Jakarta Post. I'm not alone in lambasting the lack of compassionate action from the Bakrie clan.
As for the Newmont case, there are conflicting reports on the amount of mercury released into the bay. I doubt that Mr. Ness is defending himself, not the CEO of a company with a valuation approaching $1billion.
I'm not pre-judging anything, other than those who hide behind 'anon'. Please give yourself a pen name for when you visit again.
In the Sidoarjo case I'm post-judging. Regular readers are aware that I'm not afraid to stick my neck out and to raise issues of concern. In several cases, the Jakarta Post has followed.
But I'm always ready with a mea culpa. If one is necessary.
And Outraged, thanks. Your comment is spot on. I just wish we had more 'good' days.

Of course, the jailing and seizure of Ness's Passport makes an interesting comparison to .....but of course as the judge said in relation to the Bali Drug Couriers..."The law makes no preference with skin....ahem.. colour"

Sorry but Ill stick with the moniker anon for now, I think it allows me to be more effective as a critic.
I DO WONDER HOWEVER:
Is it necessary for a commentator to have an identity?
What do u think would happen to blogging if the blogger had to use his/her real name?
Are you not more effective using an "identity"? see latest Tempo on "real" bloggers.
mORE IMPORTANTLY..
Can u answer why bakrie should pay a penny if he or the company is not found legally negligent? (Im not sure if courts take action against lack of compassion.) And why might the public or government not show some charity and compassion? are they/we too not pre-judging Bakrie? Is Bakrie or his clan vicariously liable for the actions of his engineers?
But yes Jakartass I do agree with you - you are post-judging - their lack of compassion - but I was talking legally.
I take your point and I have no doubt you are a man of "mea culpas", and this I appreciate.

Don't you see how innocent peoples suffering on the ground, because of his (Bakrie) project? Try to put yourself into those peoples' shoe, Anon! What would you do instead? Any vulcanic or other mother natures activities to be blammed for this disaster? Whose project is that anyway? Who's the most responsible person for that project? Why public/government does not show any compassion? Personally, they do have compassion and sympathy to the peoples, but there's more responsible party behind that, who supposed to pay for the environmental damage/disaster caused by their works. Then you tell us now, why public have to run/fund carity projects for Bakrie's problem?

At the risk of sounding pedantic...shouldn't it be between rather than on the norns of a dielemma?

Ah, Unspun has come unstuck ~ "norns of a dielemma"?
Luckily it wasn't a do or die lemma and we don't nornally spell 'horn' with 2 n's., but I take your point and, in answer to your original question between rather than on , I don't know.
As the phrase is a few thousand years old and a translation from a now disused language, it could be either.
For anal retentive pedants I'd think 'on' is probably best.

"We bloggers" ? Speak for yourself, Mister!.
You may do what you please with your own blog at your own time and your own bandwith. But to some of us there is something called ethics and respect toward others. I'm quite sure it was taught earlier at schools in your civilized country while we locals were still learning how to create rounded shaped wheels on our carts.
This Joel guy sent you a harmless email to your private email address. But instead of replying to him/her privately you posted it publicly. It's not like he/she's threatening you or something. This guy is asking you for an interview for God's sake. Refering to the first comment on this post, why dont you give it a go then condemn if it turned out to be what you suspected? Or else a simple NO would be much better than all those bullshits about pluralism, Lee Kuan Yew, Hamid, Bakrie, Sidoarjo, Reporters Without Borders and worst: representing other bloggers? Sorry, I'm too uncivilized to see the the bloody connection. What are you - Mr. Famous 'who refer to his reader as fans' Blogger - trying to prove here? That your blog is more than just just 'rather interesting'?
And here you go blabbering about how you want to "encourage Indonesians to express their opinions in a balanced way"? Wow! that's 'rather interesting' don't you think?
Wonder will this comment be 'censored' in this freedom of expression champion blog..
From a very dissapointed and -no longer- big fans of this blog who happened to live a 'rather interesting' life in Singa'bloody'pore.
