With respect to you J, Paul Ehrlich in 1968 (3 years before you entered to purchase Celestial Seasonings?) predicted US life expectancy at 42 by 1990, due to pesticides. Now he wants ageing populations to be slowed or reversed. I guess that's one way we could help out!

Indcoup.
It is, and plonker is derived from the French plonkeur, a fool who loves cheap red wine. I could have used the expression tosser except I don't know of any sweets with that name.
Mr. Snag.

Eh? Sorry, but you lost me there. Still, quoting Paul Ehrlich (and correctly spelt) does show your erudition, so please keep your comments coming.
Oh, and we do need contributors to Green Indonesia. Care to join us?

Wasn't Ehrlich the guy whose predictions regarding the depletion of the Earth's resources were complete and utter bollox?
As I recall growing up in the 1970's we were confidently assured by the self same "ecologists" (as they were then called) that a new ice-age was just around the corner, remind me how that prediction worked out.
I also recall the propaganda surrounding Katrina last year and how this was only the start of hellish hurricanes due to globalwarmingcooling awfeckitletsjustcallitclimatechange. Didn't quite pan out that way did it?
As I see it volcanoes and sunspots have a helluva lot more influence on the ever changing climate than infinitesimal little humans. The way we assume that climate change (if it actually IS changing) is due to us is like South Sea Islanders sacrificing virgins to propitiate the great Sea Goddess, a pointless faith based belief system designed to make us feel good about ourselves.
Much of the current "Green" movement is in fact unreformed Marxism designed to halt capitalist progress and the advancement of humankind.

Miko is evidence of the challenge that lies ahead. Although he is in good company such as certain prime ministers and presidents.
On-line Esl teaching is one legitimate employment strategy, I believe.
Celestial .. a brand name.

you don't go from pollution to ice age overnight.
The point is if we continue to destroy the environment and pollute the planet at the current rate, then it is only a matter of time before payback time.
Only 200 years ago and large parts of the world were covered in forest, and pollution levels were low.
But now we have massive populations creating huge amounts of pollution, and nearly no forests to absorb the CO2.
Give it 50 years and we are fucked IMO.

I think my problem Indcoup is that I find it so hard to focus on global warming what with all this rioting and looting, the international banking collapse, the sewage running in the streets of our darkened cities and all those aeroplanes falling out of the skies. . .
You know as a result of that dreadful Y2K disaster that all the experts predicted a few years back.

I tend to agree with Miko. I think its a bit of a joke that the majority of Global Warning Shrills castigate "western" countries but there is little or no drive to push "developing" nations. It is a shame they have not learnt from the mistakes already, it took a long time and still going on but ask yourself, where would you rather be forced to drink from a river London, New York or Jakarta..Or better still in you live in Indonesia take a look at out the window today!
