I was particularly irked by a comment from Achmad Sudarsono which read as follows:
>Hilarious:
Traditionally, the other source of news in English that comes out of Indonesia are blogs kept by expats (disclosure: Unspun is an expat, of sorts, who’s been living in Indonesia for 10 years or more). There are some good blogs among the expats but most of them are droll and comprise of grouses about the country they live in, deprecating remarks about local women and mutual masturbation among unattractive expat men.
Brutal, but true. I’m looking forward to seeing what shit this stirs up. I’m thinking that maximum shit-stirring potential is reached when the shit-stirrer has some credibility or the appearance of being serious. Anyway, congrats on this and the Blogger conference.<
I feel a little angry regarding these comments, however, since I am an "attractive" expat man I shall refrain!

Well, the self-proclaimed "master of the Indonesian blogosphere" certainly says some strange things considering, that by his own admission, he has his own "smut contributer"

Bah!
That chap is filled with only hogwash, I say. He used to say that my blog has good insights and he even went to further lengths such as putting my link in his Blogroll.
But now that he had seen my support for u, J; my link was removed and not even mentioned in that bridge-blogging list!! Man, he sure did know how to suck up that time! Trying to win my support by flattery some more, bah!
I know that he had known me being an American citizen, but still, I'm of a pure Indonesian race, which is why his discrimination sure is frigging unacceptable.

And um... No offence intended here, but when he mentioned:
deprecating remarks about local women and mutual masturbation among unattractive expat men
I think I know whom he was referring to.

Good for you, T. You're the only one who does know.
We all thought that those making deprecating remarks were the ones who make comments like that one. There's a local lass who describes me as a "kampung bule", a Vietnamese, a Malaysian and some bloke called Fred Floggle.
Everyone else I know on the blogging scene is unfailingly polite, good chaps like yourself.

Fred has existed as many other identities over the years. Despite the flavour of his posts he can be insightful at times.
I can assure you that Pak Jakartass is not Fred, nor do I believe that Fred is the target of Achmads comment.
It was probably aimed more at myself although I plead not guilty on this occassion.

Wow, J.
Parvita really is overgeneralised in making statements...
Such as in this site:
http://www.indonesiamatters.com/...donesian-girls/
There, she commented:
I’ve gone out both with Indonesian and expat men (western and eastern) and my lesson to learn is: expats are just for fun and not to be taken seriously.
It's amazing to see how distorted some people's thoughts could become when it comes to their xenophobic views, huh? Especially our most-revered Dear Maverick, who seems to have lost his own sense of identity.

Let me have more say on our dear Mr Ong.
I have noticed that that so-called Maverick really has not got any sense of identity, despite being xenophobic himself.
Some people may think that I am making hasty judgments here, but let me firstly substantiate on my own perspectives to make things clear:
1. He himself is an expat, yet he likes to discriminate other expats by recognising himself as an expat-turned-Indonesian and looks upon himself as a light for other expats to follow. He looks down upon other expats as proven in his recent xenophobic blog post.
2. He himself is a Malaysian, yet he likes to give disparaging remarks about his homeland.
3. He recognises himself as a part of the Indonesian people, yet he chooses to distance himself from the Indonesian side regarding the recent “Rasa Sayange” controversy. As I see it, he seem to be happy in keeping the flames alive between both countries, as to position himself in the middle as some kind of a “conciliator” between the two.
That Maverick never stopped to amaze us all with his applying double-standard even regarding his own sense of identity. He is oft self-contradictory in many of his own steps.
So, is he a Malaysian or Indonesian? We'll never know.
