are there any good consequences of the current system I wonder??
what are the consequences of the current system??
a. the corruption involved in the process
b. the impact on those who "fail'
c. the impact on "failing schools" - I'm not too sure of what you meant here
d. the "wealth" testing talent in the education dept
e. teachers who only know how to teach to the test
f. having a far too simplistic way to compare schools
g. poor data which is used to determine employment of further study (perhaps not universities)
h.a false universal sense of achievement or goal for students
i. others
I guess there are many others. The problem is how to replace what there is now with something better.

Good questions all, Anong.
My post is but a titbit of something I'm gestating and will probably put on Performing Monkeys.
One factor I have mentioned is that several schools capitalise, in terms of increased student enrollments, by grooming students in inter-school competitions, ranging from spelling bees to maths.
Those who don't make the team (like Our Kid) can suffer a sense of inadequacy. He told me recently that he felt "like a ghost", a matter I raised with his class teacher.
.
c. Teachers and principals could be fired.
One should also bear in mind the regional variations in culture, language, infrastructure (paid for out of local taxes) and other Jakarta-centric biases.

Same thing is true of TOEFL education in this country. How to pass a test with little (or in the case of some teachers no)emphasis on improving their subject knowledge.
