Gravatar Well, they are correct, everyone does deserve protection from the law. And it is unlawful, legally and morally, to ask someone to perform a task for money then not pay them because they are not legal citizens and have no ability to legally pursue their employer.

But, and I've said this before, the problem is not the immigrants. The problem is the employers. The employers, whether it's your neighbor needing someone to mow his/her yard or Tyson Foods needing a cheap workforce, should be prosectuted to the fullest extent of the law when caught hiring illegal immigrants.

If the CEO of Tyson Foods were to face jail time because a low level manager hired 100 illegal immigrants there would be a line at the border to get back into Mexico.

Also, we need to hold our elected officials accountable for the disasterous affects of NAFTA.
Remeber NAFTA? It was supposed to enhance the Mexican middle class so that they can purchase our goods thereby expanding our markets. But now the jobs that we sent to Mexico are moving to China, and Mexico has more unemployment than it did in 1993.

So again, the business leaders and our represenatives need to punished, not the immigrants.
The immigrants are merely a shadow of the problem - a side affect of bad policy.

Gravatar Thanks, as always, for taking time to share your thoughts, Van.

I agree with you completely on the need to hold our business leaders and representatives accountable. But we'll continue to part ways on the illegal aliens themselves...they are an active part of the problem as far as I'm concerned.

Whatever their reasons for doing so, and whatever encouragement/assistance they receive from business and governments on both sides of the border, they still make the choice to break the law. Breaking the law is still breaking the law.

And a distinction needs to be made between human and civil rights. Illegal aliens are entitled to 100% human rights, the same as everyone else. Civil rights, however, are another matter...

Gravatar I see the immigrants as a side effect of a broader problem - corrupt elected represenatives.
