Gravatar Okay, THAT pissed me off.

So let me get this straight: it's okay to drape yourself in the Mexican Flag, or even fly it higher than the American Flag (While showing the latter disrespect), but God forbid if some kid wants to wear some camo pants to show support for the troops?

Did this happen in Guadalajara? Or, oh, AMERICA?

I swear, after reading "The Age Of Tolerance", I see the US "Politically Correcting" itself rightout of being a Superpower.

Gravatar I gotta read that book!

Gravatar I'll post my final review tomorrow on Tanker Brothers.

I just finished it.

Gravatar How many other schools in the USA are doing this?

Gravatar I haven't heard of any others yet, David. I'm sure there will be more...and one is too many!

Gravatar Anybody got this Highschool's phone number? I'd like to give this principle my two cents.

Gravatar I don't know about America, but in some countries it is just fashion to wear camouflage clothes, very much like wearing jewlery in the shape of religious relics. Haven't you seen those "camouflage" pants in "girly" colours, tie belts and satin trims?
Instead of prohibiting the clothes and making them a symbol, they could have tolerated tehm and there would be much less tension.

Gravatar 720-494-3741 is the ph# to the H.S.
Please call on behalf of all proud Americans. This is ridiculous!

Gravatar Oops that was Skyline H.S. not the middle school.

Gravatar I guess that could be argued for a reason to send your children to public schools -- to support America...

Nah, just withdraw them. No need to punish your children, even if it is seen as surrendering.

Gravatar This is why I send my child to private school and pay the extra money. He gets a better education, and dosent have to contend with this PC ulta-liberal BS.

Gravatar I just emailed the principal Myla Sheperd. Her email address is mshepherd@echalk.adams50.org
I urge you all to email her and express your outrage at her biased treatment of patriotic AMERICAN children. I also cc'd Michelle Malkin and the local newspaper in Westminster. (Email addresses are writemalkin@gmail.com; and editor@neighborlynews.com)

Gravatar Ridiculous and exactly why I would not send my children to public school. The mindlessness of their rules and arbitrary ridicule of the very country that pays their bills makes me want to vomit.

Gotta tell you...my kids would show up wearing their "My Daddy is a SOLDIER in the US Army" t-shirts and I might just show up for homeroom mom duty in my Betsy Ross outfit.

The nerve.

Gravatar Un.be.lievable. Really.

Gravatar It's just a sad state of affairs when school administrators ban the flag and strip kids of military pride in order to advance the cause of illegal Mexican flag waving ingrates

Gravatar Just more evidence that:
(1) contemporary liberalism is a disease.
(2) the education establishment is a nest of cowards and quislings.

Gravatar Why don't all the white kids just dye their hair red and wear blue shirts.
There are always ways to get around the absurd rules of idiots.

Gravatar It's very difficult to accomplish much in the Congress (witness your Senators efforts) But if we allow these local school administrators to dictate "freedoms" which only express patriotism or pride in our country we have totally given up the battle. The liberals in this country will NOT stop. They KNOW NO boundries. Burn the Flag, No Pledge Alligence, Freedom to control our children, Oh Hell.....It's PAST time to regain control, It's PAST time to elect and SUPPORT represenatives and senators who reflect our views and protect OUR rights. I'd best stop....my indignation over this is creating more than HEARTBURN!

Swede

Gravatar Fun to watch you clowns bloviate and get all bent out of shape. Whatever happened to good old-fashioned RESPECT? For everyone. That's what is killing our country, the lack of it. I was taught reverence for the symbols of our nation, not to use them as cudgels to prove your point and denigrate those you find different.

Gravatar Don't you love "what they call" their patriotism and American pride?

Gravatar "Mexitude" - love the term. Hate the philosophy. I'm finding it really hard to have an appetite for Mexican food lately (one of my favorites). If I had my way all kids would be required to wear red, white, and blue as long as we are at war - and say The Pledge of Allegiance. OK, at least have that option.

Thanks

Gravatar The one thing that tends to P**me

Anarchist is that the word for

Gravatar This must stop. We fund public schools. Past time to draw the line.

Gravatar Mex-i-toot.

Gravatar Now we are getting the first taste of what it will be like to be treated as a guest in our own country. We are on the road to being treated like serfs in our own country. How did Americans, as a people, become so pathetic?

Gravatar This is beyond amazing. If my kid went to either of these two "schools", I would show up in my service dress everyday to pick them up. The principle is a coward. If those mexican kids are upset about the American flag and patriotism for America being shown, perhaps they should talk their mommies and daddies into going back to that utopia known as mexico. Wonder what they teach in American history class in these two schools?

Deny public services to illegals. Fine employers of illegals. If you want to immigrate, do it LEGALLY. CLOSE THE BORDER NOW.

Gravatar Damn straight Theresa! And thank you and every serviceman and woman for your service!!

Gravatar "Whatever happened to good old-fashioned RESPECT? For everyone."

The trouble is that most of the people who preach tolerance for all don't really mean it. For them tolerance only runs one way. If such folks showed the same respect for mainstream American values that they expect everyone else to give to the illegal aliens or Muslim nutcases they might have a point, but such is usually not the case.

If "respect for all" is truly such a sacred value then what is to be said about the people who had such little respect for the kids wearing camo clothing that they thought it necessary to pressure the authorities to make them stop it? Where is their respect and tolerance? But then again I forgot, tolerance and respect only runs one way.

And by the way, not everyone is worthy of respect. I don't have to respect pedophiles, thieves, or charter members of the KKK, amongst others. And I am under no obligation to be sensitive to the feelings of illegal aliens. If they think that their precious little feelings are being hurt they are always free to go back to where they came from.

Gravatar this is a worrying developement.

Gravatar They will not get away with this. Our colors don't run and hide.

Gravatar "Whatever happened to good old-fashioned RESPECT?" --- written by the person who preceded the statement with "Fun to watch you clowns bloviate and get all bent out of shape."

Hey Sparky. How's your irony meter working?

Gravatar Gee, if there's a disturbance at the school I hope the responding deputy sherrifs don't have US flags on their sleeves. The principal might try to kick them off-campus.

Gravatar Youth are penalized and criminalized, daily, for what they wear and how they look. Two or more wearing the same colors is a gang.

20 or so students suddenly showing up in fatigues sends the message that a student may be shot today (as would an angry parent showing up in fatigues says a teacher or the principal may get shot.)

The principal's obligation is to provide for the education and safety of her students.

Schools ban anything that is distracting or disruptive to their environment - gigapets, yoyo balls, skate shoes, yu-gi-oh cards, tshirts.

I think some of you would prefer that she let the whole situation spiral out of control and let these CHILDREN go at it. You could then blame the dirty, smelly, loud, non-english speaking illegals for a school riot...as opposed to the dirty, smelly, loud, non-(correct)english speaking US kids who came to school dressed for war.

Gravatar OH NO FREEDOM IS BEING CURTAILED

Get serious. Twenty-thirty kids show up at school all dressed the same and you DON'T expect the administration to have a fit? I guarantee you'd be singing a different tune if it was twenty-thirty Mexican kids wearing baggy pants, white t-shirts, and doo-rags.

Note to any Crips, Bloods, or Latin Kings that might be reading this (especially the Latin Kings, you scary Mexicans, you): Trade in your gang colors for American flags; then you can just cry BUT BUT PATRIOTISM when you get hassled by those mean liberal cops!

-hx

Gravatar I'm white and I think The Race is best. Hooray for The Race!

Gravatar HX-I think you're reading what you want into this. The article doesn't say the kids all showed up dressed the same. And comparing kids who wish to express patriotism to gang members? Could you hold your country more in contempt? They have a place for that you know, it's called France.

Mike H-If your attempting a joke it's weak. Second, I'm assuming your ignorant so le me remind you that the snarky phrase your employing is already in use, by La Raza you jack ass!

So yeah, I'm the racist, sure, okay, keep on smoking the good herb pal, no really, you are getting smarter, no really!

If the only arrow in your quiver to shut people up and keep them from thinking is to call them a racist that poses two problems.

1.) Eventually they will no longer care and your weapon will be rendered useless.

2.) And more importantly, when you call everything racism, then nothing is racism and you create a perception problem for when there really is racism.

The historical precedent is "the boy who cried wolf."

Gravatar Please keep up the good work. By the time you're through dividing up the population to satisfy your thirst for someone to point the finger at, blame, and ignore your own faults, there'll be five of you left.

Remember the JDF in Monty Pythons' "Life Of Brian"?

Splitters!

P.S. I always thought you Righty McTighties loved ridiculing The Strawman Left for their culture of 'victimhood'. You've proven to outmaster them. Good job! This country needs to get its' production of irony up to speed!

Gravatar Population of what Christian? Citizens? I've always assumed Lefties such as yourself didn't value American citizenship all that highly. Thanks for proving me right.

Oh, don't worry though, I wouldn't presume to question your patriotism!

Gravatar Just a question to cause trouble (hope tha's okay - I'm new, followed a link from Michelle Malkin's page).

Are all kinds of camoflage banned? I ask because my husband and I own camoflage clothes for hunting. My camo is Swiss Apline. It is very different in pattern from American military camo. My husband's camo is standard hunter break-up camo (not sure if it's mil surplus) and German. You may need to be a hunter or mil-geek to tell the difference, but the differences are there - in the shape of the blotches and the color patterns (the Swiss, for example, has more red than American camo). I own one T-shirt with American-style camo that reads "Ha! Now you can't see me!"

So is Swiss camo banned? Does the Mexican military wear camo, and if so, is Mexican camo banned? Or just American?

Janine

Gravatar Perhaps you should have contacted the school before going off on your rant. I felt the same way you did, until I called and talked to the community relations director.

First, the ban is temporary, to defuse tensions on both sides.

Second, it isn't a ban on patriotic clothing. It's a ban on clothing that expresses a political statement, camo clothing, and bandanas.

Third, the school still flies the American Flag, and students recite the Pledge of Allegiance every morning.

Fourth, school administrators first tried dealing with the troublemakers on both sides individually, but tensions continued to escalate, and behavior inappropriate for a school continued to spread.

The kids weren't just wearing cammies, and the mexican kids weren't just wearing bandanas. The kids were building towards a fight, and using patriotic and cultural symbols to intimidate and harass each other.

Like the lady told me, they would have done the same thing if the clothing involved had been sports related, ie Broncos fans and Raiders fans causing disturbances.

Finally, and to their credit, the school officals know that banning the clothing does nothing to address the uderlying tensions in the student body, but it will allow them time to deal with those tensions before real trouble begins.

Quite frankly, as a vet, I don't want to see my flag used to intimidate and harass anyone, particularly not when it's a bunch of adolescent kids. Waving the flag is great; shoving it in somebody's face isn't, and that's what was going on in the Middle School.

Gravatar TO Janine:

I'm don't know the answer to your question the different types of camouflage gear. I was passing on the description as I learned it from the article posted by the local Denver news station. I did try to call the school a couple of times the next day to get mroe info but, with limited time because I was working all day, was unable to get through.

Gravatar TO Rich:

First things first -- thank you for your service to our country.

I totally agree with you that the kids shouldn't be waving flags, or anything else for that matter, in the faces of fellow students. That is unacceptable behavior that at best disrupts the learning environment and, at worst, could open the door for violence.

I did try to call the school the following day to see if I could get more info but wasn't able to get through.

Even considering what you were told when you called the school, I still think that this incident is a step down a path we, as Americans, will regret later if it leads to ever increasing infringement on our rights. And it always does.

Gravatar "First they came for Jared's cammies... but I said nothing, because I was not wearing cammies.

Then they came for John's aviator sunglasses... but I said nothing, because I do not even OWN a pair of aviator sunglasses.

Then they came for Jill's "Bush Was Right" MP3 and QuickTime video, but I said nothing, because I thought the song was pretty lame, and the video made conservatives look like tools.

Then they came for Micah's Director's Edition "Red Dawn" DVD, but I said nothing, because Communists are no longer a threat to East Salty Rock, Texas - and YES, we dodged a bullet! We were HIGH on the Soviet Strike Target Sequence!

Finally, they came for my XXXL magnetic yellow ribbon, and there was no-one left to speak for me."

Just some words of wisdom - if we let them take even ONE of our patriotic emblems away (and who knew cammies were "patriotic"?), they will TAKE THEM ALL!!!!!!!!!!!

Gravatar To MJ,

I know exactly where you're coming from. Like I said my first reaction was the same outrage you felt.

It's a tough position for the school administrators to be in. Like she said, if it had been any other type of clothing, like sports team apparel, that was triggering the trouble, we wouldn't even be having the discussion. But because the trigger this time was political, it becomes a much harder decision to make.

In the end, they had to value students' safety over students' free speech. I do still question exactly what was going on to make them think that there were safety issues; I asked the question several times, and in different ways, but couldn't get any specifics other than "growing tensions" and "name calling." Fairly minor stuff, but it involved about 20% of the student body, which made it much more serious.

I do plan on keeping an eye on the situation, and calling again in a few weeks to see just how temporary this policy is.

Gravatar Perhaps the best way to approach this is to wear T-shirts with either the bill of rights or just the first amendment printed on them.

Patriotic, and would make LOVELY headlines when they are removed.

Gravatar Outstanding idea Ryan!

Gravatar Well, now this is gonna put Old Navy right out of business!

Gravatar This post is deeply, deeply misguided. The problem isn't illegals, who want integration. It is American Leftists.

Further, the conflation with Islamism is deeply harmful for the GWOT

Gravatar It's an analogy Dan, and I think an apt one. While yes the problem is the left, let's not forget that there really is some number of illegals who believe that the American southwest was stolen from Mexico, and that Mexico is working hard against American sovereignty.
