Actually, the first Republican I remember using the term as a perjorative was Bob Dole back in 76. (19, not 1
I personally believe it's a matter of calling someone what they would like to be called. My first name is Ray, not Raymond, and I prefer to be called Ray. The official name is Democratic, not Democrat, and they have the right to prefer to be called that. It's called simple politeness, but that's far too complex an idea for Mr. Limbaugh. (See, I can be polite!)

Kevin--this is such foolishness. If the situation were reversed, and a GOP delegate was publicly declaring their intention to vote for Obama, you'd be frothing at the mouth.
Besides, I believe all questions as to how Republicans settle their own internal differences should be referred to Mary Panzer.

I agree with Mathias. The Republicans settled their differences with an election. Mathias, you're a stooge. Unfortunately the Democrat-Panzer lost. Or is her name Pander.

But isn't Glenn Grothman being a RINO on the minimum mark-up law repeal? After all, he was one of the Republican Senators who blocked a vote on Reynolds' repealer bill!

Or how about Kathleen Vinehout... the Democratics (to give them the proper level of respect) are going to try to run her out in a primary next time, thus sayeth the Daily Kos.
Ms. Vinehout, has dared to deviate from the extreme fetus-clubbing lobby and has voted to take a more moderate stance.
I can't wait to watch how that one works out.
It's a big tent, unless Unplanned Parenthood is offended.
Oh, and if you happen to be a pro-school choice, white guy from the south side... then they recruit an out-of-town, out-of-state, professor who considers voting as a multistate franchise to run against you.
Big tent indeed.
They have room for Mark Pocan and his husband, but they have no room for moderate thought of any kind.

Wally,
Grothman is just confused. Once the issue moves away from sex, nationality or fetal tissue he gets murky and unintelligible.
On the gas law, I think he can't get passed the idea that some kind of government protection is needed because of the terminology of the debate.
He hears the words pump, mom and pop and protect and he lapses into paternalism.

I know it goes back as far as Dole, and it's meant to be a cheesy little dig.
I'm sure if Democrats started calling the Republican Party the Republic Party, Republicans would complain.
And Republicans in Wisconsin wouldn't keep a convention delegate who was supporting Obama. I'd enjoy that, but I wouldn't condemn the Republican Party (note the correct title) for booting that delegate.

The Republic Party. I like the sound of it. Now if only we could get the elected members to live up to the name.

What a hoot, Kevin! Aren't you being a bit inconsistent, though? You laugh at the Democrats trying to enforce the party line here yet on another blog you justify the Washington County Republican Party refusing to let the Republican running against Dan LeMahieu hand out his brochures in the party tent. Aren't you being a wee bit of a hypocrite here? Methinks so!

The Democratics were only willing to endorse one Democratic who has a primary challenger - Gary Sherman.
Th JSOnline's SomePolitics Blob reports "Although [Wineke] told party leaders that they could soon meet again to endorse incumbent Assembly Democrats from Milwaukee, Wineke also said he is displeased with some of them. 'Make sure some of those good incumbent Democats pay their (party) dues,'"
Parties enforce the party's rules.
I personally don't think they were wrong to yank this woman's credentials, the GOP requires delegates to sign an affidavit.
What does reflect poorly on the Democratic party is the superdelegate structure.
It is rather interesting that the party that gives a damn about the proper use of their title couldn't really care less about meaning of the word.
Superdelegates were created to provide the ability for the party elite to override the party regulars. That kind of democracy isn't the form Jefferson had in mind.
In some ways, it is an acknowledgment that representative government has its purpose over pure democracy.

How'd that "insight" about Ziegelbauer retiring go?
Oh yeah, "Sadie" was wrong again.
