Oops. I guess the Irish just didn't understand how good the EU is for them. This is why the communist block didn't hold free elections. I doubt that there will be many EU countries following Ireland's lead.

I'm uncertain what aspect of the EU's prior behavior leads you to conclude it will feel bound to recognize a democratic vote, or any other lawful obstacle. The oligarchy behind the EU will continue business as usual.
They've got all the guns - why should they listen to the citizens?

Agreed, David--they're already talking about ways to get around this vote, by breaking their own laws.
Nothing short of insurrection will derail the EU project.

They broke their own laws with regard to the EU bank regulations as soon Germany and France started having problems.
