My own view of conservatism is that it combines:
1. The desire to defend that which one has come to value;
2. The recognition that one's own rationality is insufficient to solve all, or even most, of the problems of social life -- that recourse to the wisdom of accumulated tradition is necessary.
But he who wants above all to tear down the established order will not respect either of these desires in others. As the established order in the West is capitalist and broadly Christian, the socialist of whatever stripe must undermine those things in any way possible. The most expedient means is to undermine the loyalty toward them in the general public.
Undermining a loyalty directly is a tough trick. It's easier to undermine a man's confidence in himself, which will take all of his loyalties into the dustbin with it. That appears to be the aim of this "worldview defense" gambit.
