I listened to Imus many years ago before I matured. I don't remember anyone being upset when he played the song with the words, "I don't care if it rains or freezes, as long as I've got my plastic Jesus." Most people took it in the context of humor as it was intended. Although you could argue if much of what he says is humorous.
In fact, Imus equally insults anyone and everyone. It's part of his program's mentality.
But it's OK for rappers to suggest that one should "kill a cop."
This society is going down a wrong path.

We've had a "Shock Jock" in Chicago named Steve Dahl for 30 years who has said much worse, and gotten fired from quite a few radio stations for it. Imus is just a nasty mouthed guy who got caught up with himself and his mouth. Have others said worse and gotten away with it? Yes. But Imus still said what he said, has made a lot of money saying nasty things, and now is paying the price for this. If I'm Imus, I apologize to the Rutgers team, make a classy exit and retire to my farm out west to work with the kids he helps out.
