The NYT isn't baffled. The NYT is explaining why ND is doing well to those who might be baffled about it. That is the role of a newspaper - to highlight stories like this.
The sad part is that with your knee-jerk anti-NYT attitude, you are failing to see that the paper is doing a very good job of explaining why ND is doing well. Since this story is so important to you, I would think you would be applauding the NYT for bringing it to light.

M, I somewhat agree with what you wrote. But, and there is always a but where the NYT is concerned, it says that only after the election would they dare to find something positive. And we know that they had to throw in some negative commentary. JWF, this is an excellent post and got here by The Other McCain. The point I get is that solid, conservative governance is why North Dakota is going to survive this recession better than most.

Why are you defending the Times? Do you work there? It's not you blog, dude, if you don't like the way the article is titled, don't read it, don't comment on it.

@dbutler
isn't the comments section of any blog post meant for free discussion of the post rather than simple praise?
I agree with M. The NYT doesn't seem baffled. They seem to understand exactly why ND is doing well as they do a pretty good job explaining why.
I count myself on the right, but have never understood why so many conservatives hate the NYT. They're editorials aren't always the best (with the exception of David Brooks), but their reporting is pretty straight.
People are depriving themselves the pleasure of reading an excellent newspaper by disregarding the NYT as some liberal scandal sheet.

$41 oil should put a stop to the drilling and let's see what happens to farm prices.
