Its sad when people post on speech they did not hear. I suspect you did not listen to this, of if you heard anything, heard an out of context snippet.
Did you know Savage had an autistic brother, who died in his 20's? Did you know he has written about autism, as long as 25 years ago?
That what he was railing on was a health care and school system that can diagnose 1 in 160 kids as "autistic? Its "dialing for dollars", the more prognosis for autism, the more money for programs, the more money for the school and the more money for unethical doctors who do an off the cuff prescription of autism.
Savage is wrong on many things, but his critiques of the health care system are usually well informed, insightful and educational to his audience.
You should be ashamed of publishing this article, without learning the facts and context before writing it.

Slow news day, I gather...
Equally noticeable is the lack of news coverage when left-wing halfwits like Randi Rhodes say something provably asinine. But let an effective voice of the Right say something "out of line" in the eyes of the new Hitler Youth - mediamatters.org - and it's page one, above the fold material. This fact should outrank any hurt feelings on these so-called aggrieved parents; the world doesn't revolve around your kid. Get over it.

Michael Savage is a Great American Treasure! I am sick of the Left Wing Media taking swipes at him when they have nothing better to do. Listen to his show, you may learn something.

I take it as Savage attacking those who are trying to boost numbers and classifications in order to have some kind of power.
The idea that kids who are hyper are now striken with A.D.D. and that they want to categorize A.D.D. as a type of autism. Michael by now should figure everything he says will be cut up and switched around.

You fell for it. Hook, line, and sinker. You obviously never listen to Savage. Refer to Mark's comment above. He says it nicer than I would. I'll add that Savage's brother was also blind and couldn't walk or talk and he died at the ripe old age of 20 something in a hospital for the mentally retarded.

Michael Savage did not put down children with autism. He talked about children being misdiagnosed by doctors. Just as many as children being misdiagnosed with ADD/ADHD. Next time, make sure you hear the whole show and don't take a script from the left-wing media and write this report. I'm sick and tired of the left-wing media. It's a shame that they are able to get away with this kind of behavior. I listened to the show, I know what he said.

I agree with Dr. Savage.
Autism is the new "disorder" of the day. In the 80's & 90's it was ADD and ADHD. Now, in the 2000's, autism is being used as the "catch all" diagnosis.
One of my nephew's was diagnosed as autistic about 8 years ago - something of a variety called "aspergers syndrome."
It's bunch of bull.
He was an only-child until he was about five or six years old and everything was fine with him. Then, when my sister and her husband had more children; he was no longer the center of attention.
So, he began to isolate himself in his room and would rarely interact with the rest of the family unless he had to.
And, of course that led others to think that something was mentally wrong with him.
Long story short; diagnosed with autism...
Now, he just uses it an excuse for his antisocial behavior...
You have to really analyze WHAT Dr. Savage was implying and that is that too many parents clearly have a disciplining problem with their children, but they don't want to admit that they have contributed to their child's behavior, so they take him to a doctor and the doctor labels the child with whatever disorder happens to be the flavor of the month, thus, absolving the parents while depriving the children of any real help.
Best to call NANNY-911 first.
If The Nanny can't correct the child's anti-social behavioral problem, then you probably really do have a mental disorder on your hands and should take your child to go see a doctor.
Like I said, I understand what Dr. Savage was saying, and I fully agree with his intent. Although, saying that 99 percent of the kids with autism are misdiagnosed is stretching things a wee bit. More like about 60 to 70 percent...
If you don't understand what he was saying, then, of course you're going to get bent out of shape about it.
And, if you are a parent who's child has been misdiagnosed with autism because of your lack of parenting skills, well, of course you are going to freak out whenever someone else suggests that it might be a discipline problem and not a medical problem, because we as parents don't like to admit that we often make mistakes in the rearing of our children.
Anyway, I've got to run and post some stuff on my blog.
Cheers

I have to agree, you are a jammy wearing fool.
Savage is totally right calling out the "health professionals" who keep broadening diagnosis or creating new pathologies out of air to expand their market.
Be real. The healthcare interests and their new victim class pulls the same trump card if you criticize ADD or bi-polar or any of the modern hogwash conditions that are being applied to any kid that is the slightest pain in the ass.
I don't have any sons, but I have 4 nephews. Of the 4, 3 were continually being diagnosed as having ADD by their school health services. Of course my sister and her husband kept telling them to go to hell. It helped that my sister has a Phd in Psych from USF. Less well equipt parents get steamrolled into thinking like Jammy Wearing Fools.
Those 3 boys are all doing quite well. They're heading to college and plan on military careers. The one into jazz dance and art never was put on the "To Be Dosed List". Even a JWF should be able to figure that one out.
You're a real sap.

We have a son, who is almost 6, who was "diagnosed" with autism by a public school "group" who never gave us their criteria when he was just four years old. They gave us a piece of paper with "signals" to watch out for.
I find that teachers and pretty much all of the shallow idiots, with no real background in the sciences of medicine or psychology, think that they are the experts because they sat in some half-day conference for teachers, or whatever.
They said the same thing about our daughter as well. She had a speech impediment. She speaks clearly now and is a very talented young girl
These people are idiots.
Savage did nothing wrong.
As for my son, he is now six, he reads at a fourth grade level, uses a computer, and knows multiplication.
No, it was not autism, it is the fact that his brain is pretty dynamic at a young age. He might be a young genious, but he also likes to play in the mud, build legos, and be with his best friend...his cat.

CONTEXT? WE DON'T NEED NO STINKING CONTEXT! Savage is right-wing (=fascist). He said bad things about gay people once (but not really). I am conservative (but not really) and I am outraged! (not really). But to make sure I am still hip and cool I will protest this non-issue!

I've listened to Savage, He appears to say many conservative things but if you listen further he instead starts leaning towards Libertarianism. His views against corporations and oil companies reflects views closer to Ron Paul than Ron Reagan.

OK, I listen to Michael Savage on my way home from work just about every day. I was listening the day these comments were made. Had I been able to crawl through the radio to get to him I would've done so. I heard no context, no "those kids who have been misdiagnosed need to be told not to be morons," NOTHING to mitigate his hateful words. As someone with a TRULY autistic nephew (doesn't speak, can't handle strangers, gives gutteral cries when he tries to communicate, can only be calmed down when playing with string) I am beyond offended. He needs to apologize wholeheartedly to the heartbroken parents who deal with this tragedy every day. I do think those who are calling for him to be pulled from the air are going too far and should instead protest his cruelty the same way I do-change the station.

There isn't one talk show guy who hasn't said something that I find truly offensive. If all of us were given free mic time to talk freely I'm sure we might even say something that crosses the line occasionally. I know Michael gets riled up....that's what I like about him. He's not in a coma like most Americans shuffling along and allowing the outrages to build up to a monunmental crescendo. I know I have even written things on blogs I've regretted. Same thing for Candidates whose every frigging word is dissected and evaluated til the cows come home. We have gotten ridiculous....My feeling is they have Michael under a microscope and are trying their damndest to silence him. Imagine that kind of pressure..it would be understandable to me if he lost it.
I think his being right about Illegal immigration, the lazy, greedy, corrupt congress, and health industries is more than worth letting this go.
I am far more outraged by the Illegal alien who killed that womans entire family in San Francisco than getting hot and bothered about words. Her husband and two sons are dead and never coming back. Try getting outraged about that Americans!! Maybe then we can force these corrupt money grubbing politicians to change from anarchy back to law abiding and civilzed society.

I am a sister of a 17-year-old boy with Autism. I am also an educator for students on the Autism Spectrum. I listened to Michael Savage's entire speech. I understand that Michael Savage was trying to make a point about the healthcare system, but why bring Autism into it? He may have experience with people that he thinks are misdiagnosed with "Autism," but there is actually an entire Autism Spectrum.
"What do you mean they scream and they're silent?" Some of them, but not all!
Autism is not overdiagnosed. It is under-represented. It may be the disability "du jour" in his words, but that is because Autism Speaks and other Autism programs finally have the money to raise awareness. I understand that he was trying to make a point, but by stating that my loving father should have told my brother with autism "don't act like a moron" and "Stop acting like a putz" is a bit insulting.
Although, maybe I should try telling my brother and my students with Autism this upcoming school year to stop acting like putzes. It may cure their Autism!
