That is the most absurd piece I've ever seen. Blindfolding makes them fear for their lives? God forbid an enemy combatant should fear for their life. And their poor knees... on the concrete! This is just the most disgusting piece of yellow journalism I've ever heard of.
And by Yellow, I mean cowardly.

Hey Pinch,
What about the price your shareholders are paying for the arrogance and incompetence of your leadership at the NYT? If you need a powerful reminder of that, just check out your stock price collapse over the last few years.

It is time for the Times to get a clue. Blindfolding of prisoners is SOP (Standard Operating Procedure). It is done as much for the safety of the soldiers as it is to deny the prisoner one of his main senses. There are several reasons for this ranging from not allowing the prisoner to glean any sort of intelligence information to protecting the identity of any Iraqi interpreters that may be working with the troops. It prevents the prisoner from developing escape plans. There are a hundred and 1 reasons I could give you, but it is something that has been practiced since the beginning of warfare.
If the prisoner is afraid it isn't because of the blindfold, but rather what it is he was doing that brought him to be blindfolded. These idiots just need to quit trying to protray everything as some sort of gross violation of the Geneva Convention.
I wonder how they would like it if bloggers just started hanging around their offices reporting on everything their employees did? I don't think the Times would allow embedded bloggers too long after we witnessed one of their editorial board meetings.

Give.
Me.
A.
Break.
Would they think it's torture to be stuck in a box with hot air piped in and made to stand up for 30 hours? Would it be torture to make them run through the woods and made to find their own food, all the while wondering when they were going to be caught again and slapped around?
Wait....that's what happening right now! But not to any Iraqi prisoners.. but TO OUR OWN TROOPS. It's called Survival, Evasion, Resistance Escape.
It's training. If our troops can endure worse than any of those "horrors of Abu Ghraib" in an extremely LIGHT version of what would happen to them if captured by the enemy, then these prisoners can deal with being freakin' blindfolded for a while.
Geezus!!!

Maybe we should just use harsh language when it comes to Muslim prisoners. The NYT would approve.

Don't forget the truths so-called mainstream America holds dear: FoxNews is propoganda, there were no WMD's, Bush is not a good public speaker, republicans cut taxes for the rich, and al qaeda would be cool with us if we weren't such bullies. You have to admit a good portion of the voting, OUR VOTING public feels this way. no wonder

It seems the NYT ran out of stories so they came up with this absurd and meaningless article that is so far from reality.
Don't they really understand why it's necessary to blindfold a suspected terrorist in Iraq? Don't they know that every single decent Iraqi working with the US soldier for a better future for his country will be scared to death if those suspects were to see his face? Plus dozens of other reasons that one doesn't even have to explain here, I think they are clear for any sane person.
On the other hand you know what? The US soldiers are so disciplined and doing their work so well that even a lunatic observer from the NTY can find nothing to write about but this blindfolding story - believe me, it only tells how far from reality these journalists live and how much progress have been already done in Iraq.
There is so much abuse in the Middle East that is worth reporting; and it's not inflicted by US soldiers, maybe that's why it's not worth mentioning!

If Hillary or BO becomes president (God forbid) the same procedures will continue of course as many other military procedures will but you will never see an idiotic story like this by the NY Times or any other Lib paper.

- On WMDs: are you sure you aren't thinking of a different country? The one making nukes and spreading info on them was, suprise, PAKISTAN. If anybody needs to be in a cell, it's AQ Khan - but instead, we haven't even been able to speak to the guy.
- On taxes: everyone cuts taxes for the rich; more campaign donations! The Dems merely have the decency to not crow about how they are being "fiscally responsible" while running up a massive debt to the Chinese.
