That "treason" card sure does get thrown around a lot.
Anyway, there is little or no accountability in the blogosphere. Most bloggers are anonymous, and post with little risk to their reputation personally. Most have no background in actual journalism, nor are subjected the scrutiny of the peers in their profession. It is very much a "wilderness".
Since you're an LGFer, I'll share a little anecdote I recall from before my ousting. Remember that famous picture of the Iranian woman being buried in preparation for stoning? Remember there were claims that the photo was actually a still from a movie? Well, a bunch of the lizards (myself included) set out to determine if the claim was real. I happened to find a couple of unrelated sites that credited the image to the movie, I posted the links as evidence that backed up the claim. Charles said something to the tune of "I'll need something better than some post on a blog". Well, what do ya know, he had just made Rather's point.
