It was all petty politics based on one person's grudge against another.
The school secretary wanted to get rid of the teacher and she succeeded.
I doubt if she even realised the broader implications of her actions.
The clerics distorted the truth and got 5 min. of fame. They got what they wanted.
The president was made aware of the truth and pardoned the teacher as a result. Even he realised the stupidity of the whole thing - but he has his hands full with the extremists.
Also, the president does not want to lose 215 million dollars worth of aid from Britain next year - so he got what he wanted too.
The judge only gave the teacher a sentence in order to appease both sides but unfortunately it backfired.
All this fuss over a teddy because of one petty person's grudge against another.
