I am a Marine Corps veteran and a republican (I guess this guy's a democrat). My take: give the guy a break. It's a trap that's easy to fall into - you *never* feel as if you did enough. There's guys coming out of Iraq right now who have done their part, but feel badly because they're leaving before the job's finished. Guys who served but not in combat, who were in combat but undecorated, decorated but survived.
He did what he did. What has he done lately, and is he a good Mayor *today*?

(Combat Infantry Badge) you needed to be in combat for 30 days or more. IF he actually served two tours and won two bronze stars with a V device, then it's highly probable that he won the CIB as well.

You say that like it's a bad thing. I live in Joisy and 1/3 in prison or awaiting sentencing means that 2/3 haven't been caught yet! That's pretty good around here.
Nitemote, I don't understand any of your logic and what does any of that have to do with lying about being a Green Beret? And just to establish my credentials I have a CIB, class of '68 and a BSM w/V.
Uh Jammie - correction (or addition, actually) to my prior comment regarding the CIB - you must also be serving IN the INFANTRY for 30 days under fire; being in Armor or Artillery won't do it and for all we know he won his Bronze Stars with V for valor while serving as a truck driver or somesuch, who put his life in danger rescuing others in the convoy, while under fire.
I still don't understand (and probably never will) why he claimed to be Special Forces (a "Green Beret" is simply a hat) when he wasn't.
What a sad story, all the way around....
There is a lesson in this: Never tell a lie that makes you out to be a hero. Heroes are the favorite targets of cheap-shot artists.
If Levy had said: "I spent the war peeling spuds." the revelation of his true record could have been shrugged off with an: "Aw shucks, 'tweren't nuthin. I was just doing my job."
Instead he's in hiding.
Jammie.....I can't get this guy off my mind --the picture of him, the facial expression, bears, to my mind, too much resemblance to the guy's in that movie (based on a true story I think), the one where the Marine commander was taken to court, and his right hand man, in full dress, did away with himself.....will you let me know as soon as there is an update on the mayor?
