The Enquirer has obviously set themselves up needlessly for a slam-dunk slander case from a milionaire trial lawyer.

That's what the NE caption says. So we know the photos are completely unrelated to each other.
However, there is no sweat stain on the shirt in the photo where Edwards is holding the baby, imo. It's just a shadow from overhead lights.

A traditional media outlet needs to jump through a few hoops first; among other things, the outlet will want to get a little more verification than what the Enquirer typically offers.
Still, I've read elsewhere that North Carolina newspapers are starting to sniff around the story. Keep in mind that if they're going to publish, they'll want more than "The Enquirer reported that ... " in their stories.
At the very least, they'll try to solicit direct comment from some of the principals.
