They're not coming back. There's no way to make a cannoli worth eating without using dairy products that naturally contain transfats.
I'm sympathetic to people who don't want to eat hydrogenated vegetable fats, but labeling would be sufficient.

For now, take the subway to New Jersey and buy there.
Why have trans-fats been banned? Well, they sound nasty. They are associated with "bad" cholesterol, but it is unclear how much or if it is cause-and-effect - remember, "higher risk" means the difference between being in a thunderstorm without cover and using a metal-shaft umbrella. And unless you eat shortening from the can...

*Speaking Out*
The FDA, after spending years reviewing all available evidence on trans fats, said in its July 9, 2003, 260-page ruling (Docket No. 94P-0036), that any fears of a public health concern from the small amounts of trans fats in our diets were not supported by the evidence. These fatty acids haven’t been shown to be better or worse than any other dietary fat. The FDA expert panel specifically stated that trans fats needn’t be eliminated from the diet and they refused to establish a daily recommended intake due to lack of evidence. They agreed to add trans fats to food labels, but only after explaining it was only in response to a relentless, decade-long activist campaign.

*FDA -QandA transfat*
Q: Should trans fat be eliminated from the diet?
A: No. According to experts, eliminating trans fat completely from the diet would require such extraordinary dietary changes (e.g., elimination of foods, such as dairy products and meats that contain trans fatty acids) that eliminating trans fat could cause an inadequate intake of some nutrients and create health risks.
...
Q: Why is there no %DV for trans fat?
A: Although the updated Nutrition Facts panel will now list the amount of trans fat in a product, be aware that it does not have a %Daily Value (%DV) for trans fat. While scientific reports have confirmed the relationship between trans fat and an increased risk of CHD, none has recommended an amount of trans fat that FDA could use to establish a Daily Value (DV). Without a DV, a %DV cannot be calculated. As a result, trans fat will be listed with only a gram amount.
But saturated fats do have a %DV.

What irony. After Heller, Mayor Bloomberg cannot make you leave the gun, but he can make you leave the cannoli.

Sadder still, the New Yorkers didn't bother telling the government to shove it or to leave them alone. No they bowed to their nanny overlords and begged forgiveness.

Priorities, This is exactly what I though about when I saw the video of that woman lying dead in the emergency room of the NYC psychiatric hospital.

Four times the transfat? Simply label each cannoli "Serving size: 1/4 cannoli; Servings per cannoli 4." Then sue all the way to SCOTUS, if further harassed.

If the food Nazis try to pull the same shit here in San Pedro, Kalifornia that they're pulling back East they're either gonna end up with a few broken legs or get whacked. (snicker snicker)
This may be the left coast but here in San Peeedro we're very "blue collar". We also happen to have the largest Sicillian and Italian-American population in Kalifornia and we love our Cannolis.
BTW, Cannolis are very easy to make once you buy the shells. P**s on the Health Nannies.
